Genuine question guys because I wasn’t around back then - Including so many from then over the players now, when we’re winning pretty much everything and dominating, is that because we had a team of individuals back then? They were good individually and better than the players today, but as a team we just didn’t win as much? Or is it nostalgia?

My favourite (not the best) ever City team -

Nicky Weaver
Richard Edghill | Otamendi | Distin | Kolarov
Joey Barton | Pollock | Michael Brown | Tiatto
Paul Walsh | Darren Huckerby

Subs:
Andy Morrison
Martin Phillips
Foe
Dunnie
Mark Kennedy

No one is making it through that midfield alive!

you need Gerry Gow to ensure that ;)
My pick for the best team was trying to compare like with like but it probably isn't really defensible
- although when it comes to Maradona or Pele nobody sees a problem!

Definitely nostalgia mate.
My 1st season ticket was 69/70 with Lee/ Bell/ Summerbee. That team won the league in 68, FA Cup in 69 and League Cup and European Cup Winners Cup in 70.
I think the year after we won the league we came 13th. Even when we were winning trophies we'd get hammered plenty of weeks. The defence was average at best. Only player in that era who'd have got near the current team was King Colin.

Nice one. All I got to see of Bell, Lee and Summerbee was a VHS my dad bought us one Christmas so it was hard for me to judge how good they were because it was just their highlights. My dad has said the same on Bell, he’d be part of todays team.

From about 1956 - today.
Trautmann,
Book, Watson, Doyle, Donachie
Oakes D Silva, KDB,
Summerbee, Aguero, Silva.

Subs' bench: Ederson, Kompany, Law, Booth, Bernardo, Yaya, Lee, Crossan, Dowd.
Best entertainers: Marsh, Kinkladze
.

I think my all time best team to play now would mostly include the current squad given the extra ball skills needed by a top modern keeper and full backs.
Ederson
Walker Watson Dias Cancelo
KDB Bell Merlin
Summerbee Law Aguero

In the new era, I had a really soft spot for Shay Given.
I think he did an amazing job, remember his debut with Boro, one of the best I've seen.

As an irishman, who thought he was world class, his time at city made me realise he was anything but. I have geordie season ticket holding family who werent keen and i couldnt see why. Watching him week in week out made me realise. He was a coward of a keeper imo. Yeah hed make a few saves that looked good for the camera and for match of the day but everything else he did was poor. Very much like de gea at the rags. I was so disappointed in Given as i had such high expectations.

A prime example is the henry handball for france v ireland. Henry managed to handball it in the 6 yard box under no pressure from the keeper. A top class keeper would have cleaned striker and everything out of it in the 6 yard box. Given was glued to his line all the time. Never commanded his area at all and preferred to take his chance making the save. I hate this kind of keeper.

That said, he was class on his debut!
derby day the scores were level,
then the goat was fed by neville,
silly boy should know for sure,

I remember in 2010 Shay dislocated his shoulder and I had a set to with Alan Green on Radio 5 when he complained about our emergency loan!!

Got to be the worst keeper on corners and crosses we've ever had and there's been a few.
Never left his line.

There have indeed.

Andy Dibble still holds the crown for me though, for general haplessness
