The first really positive news in the horror going on in Ukraine is that the Ukrainians have surrounded and cut off today
the Russian army attacking the NW of Kyiv. 8-10k russian troops are surrounded and getting pummelled.

Ukr has to hold it yet so dont get too excited. i will post some info on this in the off topic thread above.

If the Ukr hold this and defeat the RU army this is going to be big news

Macron (French P) just announced that France, Turkey and Greece are planning an "exceptional humanitarian operation" to evacuate civilians from Mariupol. Paris has been in contact with Mariupol's mayor and Macron will discuss this issue with Putin "in the coming hours”

Likely to be those countries navies sailing into Mariupol and evacuating people. Daring the Russians to try and stop them.

As much to do with a Russian switch in focus as the stubborn resistance of the Ukrainian forces (though the latter has been forced by the former) - their emphasis is now on the Donbas rather than a shotgun 'attack everything' approach - they want a land bridge to Crimea and complete Russian control of the Sea of Azov (I think this is the minimum Putin will accept as a face saving peace negotiation - though Ukraine would have their own demands). If they think they can get this without taking the capital that's what they will do - and Ukraine needs to watch for their south eastern forces (their most battle-hardened troops) being encircled while Russia attempts to achieve it.

I have been at pains on that thread to report info that is not covered in the mainstream press and the 'reduction' that mainstream tends to sell us.

Pretty sure we will buy one and I'm pretty sure he won't play in the middle same as he didn't when Cancelo, Ake, Mendy, Laporte played there.
