MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head

Liverpool are winless in four Premier League games against Manchester City (D2, L2).

The Merseysiders have not kept a clean sheet in any of their past 11 league matches at Etihad Stadium.

This will be the 23rd competitive game between sides managed by Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola. Each man has recorded eight victories, with six draws (including fixtures settled by a penalty shootout).

Manchester City

Manchester City have won eight of their past nine home league matches, with the exception a 3-2 defeat by Tottenham on 19 February.

City have conceded a league-low one headed goal in the Premier League this season.

Pep Guardiola's side have kept 18 top-flight clean sheets in the current campaign, a figure matched only by Liverpool.

Phil Foden has scored in each of his past three appearances against Liverpool - the only player to net in four successive top-flight games against the Reds is Jamie Vardy, who did so in five consecutive fixtures between 2016 and 2017.

Riyad Mahrez is aiming to become the third City player to score in six consecutive Premier League home games, after Uwe Rosler in 1994 and Alvaro Negredo in 2013.

Liverpool

Victory for Liverpool will see them finish the day top of the Premier League table for the first time since 1 October.

The Merseysiders have won each of their past 10 league games, keeping eight clean sheets in the process.

They are on a club record run of eight consecutive away wins in all competitions.

The Reds have not conceded a first-half goal in any of their past 19 matches in all competitions.

Substitutes have scored eight Premier League goals for Liverpool this season, a total exceeded only by Manchester United (10 goals).

Mohamed Salah is vying to score in a fourth consecutive Premier League appearance against Manchester City - the last player to achieve this was Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, who did so in five successive games between 2000 and 2003.

My first ever City match.

Image

My dad took me to Maine Road and we walked around the stadium before kick off so he could show me the sights. The smell from the burger vans, the sea of blue shirts, the red and black away shirts, the songs everyone was singing - I was hooked!

I remember thinking “I’ll ask for the home kit for my birthday!”.

Image

Running back to the car after the match screaming to my dad, “We won! We won!!”

We beat Liverpool 2-1 with goals from Nicky Summerbee and Maurizio Gaudino.

Same again today please blue boys!

I was over from Jersey visiting my dad then and he took me and my brother's, was only about my 4th game. It was on good Friday wasn't it? On the Monday he took us to Ewood for that epic game against Rovers. Talk about good luck charms!

The last few minutes of that game against Liverpool was tense! Although the highlight for me was going to the parkside before the match, very exciting for a 14 year old!

Yeah it was a Friday mate. I can’t remember the whole day because I was 9, but I do remember the bits mentioned like it was yesterday. I don’t remember the nervy last few minutes but because it was my first match I probably hadn’t fully committed to the anxiety club

Their defence is way overrated. VVD is not the same player since returning from his long injury. Yet the media wants everybody to believe that they've got the best defence in the world. Reality is that their defence has never been fully exposed yet. The only reason they getting away with it is because they press the hell out of opponents in the first half, forcing the opposition to make mistakes and kill the game by half time. They rarely score from open play as it's not part of their attacking system. Leicester and Spurs did figure them out to some extent this season. We never have issues scoring against them but they tend to score against us too.
I would pay attention to corner/free kick opportunities in their box. Their game plan is simple, get the ball and kick it to the other end for counterattack. Same thing when we have a player down, their game plan is to play the ball as quickly as possible before the ref notices our injured player. Such disgusting attitude towards the game and absolute disregard for fair play. But that's the only reason they win games, not because they are better than anyone as they want everybody to believe.
Beat them at their own game and show the entire world how bang avarage those lot are.

Agree re defence. Game after game they give up excellent chances but (for some reason I cannot fathom) other teams don't take them. If we are clinical today, we win.
