Cancelo - Jeckyl & Hyde

Apart from the odd moment of genius……and I mean odd, this man is a major worry for me. He is lazy, gives the ball away, doesn’t track back and is basically unreliable. I don’t think he’s good enough for us in terms of overall stability at the back. Thoughts ?

I think he’s class. He just had a poor first half today.

I think he is awful defensively. Going forward he is more effective on the left. Gives us nothing at right back. General concensus is that we need another left back as Cancelo can play either side. I’d rather us buy a right back so he doesn’t have to play there.
Balotelli......that's a brilliant finish.

Only time he's been good as right back was when he actually played as a central midfielder.

That's the whole point, in Peps eyes he's not a defender. Pep's defenders both play centre back.
I'm with Mase 100%, he's sheer class.
But that said, boy did he have a stinker today.

edit: I do agree he's far more effective on the left.

The point of his system is that the wing backs know how to attack, not defend.

Same as with Klopps, his whole system is based on those two on the wing, Arnold and the other one, which are, imho, piss poor defenders, but really good on the attacking side.

I think that's why Danilo left, who was a better defender, but lacked his offensive intuition.

He's been asked to play left , right back, midfield .

Ask Dias to play in attack . He would be a disaster.

He wasn't brilliant today , but he stlll defended ok. went off on a crossfield run at the wrong time.

We will miss him on Tuesday.
He is an attacking option that forces opponents to be careful and hang back.
Lays on goals as well, for ex, against Liverpool and Chelsea

I don't think he’s particularly good at attacking or defending, as I said he has moments of genius but they are far too infrequent, today he was garbage and has been for many matches, give me Zinch any day of the week, he has heart and was brilliant today and is solid in most games and hardly ever gives the ball away. Cancelo hardly completed a pass today. Im not a fan sorry, and my heart sinks when I see his selection.

He didn't have a good game today but I think he's had a great season. He's had loads of assists and scored s couple as well. He has probably more touches than anyone in the team bar Rodri because he's the go to for so much of our play.
Zinchenko had a good 1st half and it was a lovely assist for the 1st goal but 3 times in the 2nd half He was going down the left- stopped, and tried to go back and was dispossessed. When there's space he's good in the triangles but other than that he's really limited in my opinion.

His display today was truly grim. We talked about him on our journey to the game and suggested that his first 10 involvements would be 9 poor and 1 good. He did 2 decent cross field passes in 90 minutes and was dreadful in everything else. He can't defend at all and his 2 great passes this season do not make him an outstanding attacking threat. Sad to say but I think he is garbage.

He was given a new 5 year contract in Feb so Pep obviously rates him. And he’s perfect for Pep’s system, I can’t think of a lot of other fullbacks that would fit into Pep’s system, especially being played out of position.

His house got broken into and he was twated. He then played against Arsenal the next day in what was a great win for us. He’s alright by me.

6 assists from his position suggest more than 2 good passes this season.

I reckon he'll be in the PFA Team of the Year

Not a defender in a million years but a player in Pep's system. Will continue to see him on the left so no left back coming in. As someone said earlier, signed a new deal so he is here to stay. Im alright with that, i do rate him further up the pitch

I saw the Palace home game when he played on the left and was poor ( he wasn’t alone). Yesterday he did improve in the second half. The fact is he has more than a few moments of real quality and can open up a packed defence which is crucial. I remember that brilliant ball past the far post against the rags which Bernardo incredibly turned in. Kevin is the only other City player who can deliver that quality of ball. We need him. He’ll be missed on Tuesday.

Not his best game, but it’s also not easy to keep swapping based on who else is available.

He’s been brilliant this season and the combo of him on the left and Walker right has been our best option by far.
Tracking back is overrated.

I agree with this, he knows he had a poor performance on Saturday, he said that in a TV interview, he needs to work on his defensive game but generally he's been superb this season and has been contender for Man of the Match in many games.
