Relegated from the football league, the first ex Pl team to suffer this, also fans had sit down protest on pitch before end of game, which was abandoned, how the mighty have fallen

Sad to see a local club struggle like they have. Hope they bounce back quickly, though I rather suspect they won’t

in a strange sort of way , that shows how good the league system is in uk and Europe .

Teams go up and down .
None of this closed club set up as in North America .

No sooner do they have team in town and they bugger off to LA or whatever .

Free markets are always the best way to go.

It’s been on the cards for years this. I got frustrated with them around the time Lee Croft went there on loan and scored against us and celebrated way too much. One of those fucking annoying reasonably local teams who love to hate us. Like Stockport.

Listened to a podcast with Gerry Taggart and he was Dickov’s assistant when he was manager at Oldham. The owners are terrible by the sounds of it!

In living memory they were in the old first division.

My late godfather Uncle Alban will be turning in his grave, he used to go and watch them with his mate Norbert when Man Ure were playing away (he and my mum were the only reds in the family, just Mum now).

Saddened by the demise of the Latics from Prem to non league.
In the late 50s, early 60s they were my 2nd club because of the link they seem to have with City.
Bondary Park seemed to be the go to retirement team for so many ageing City stars.
Bobby Johnstone, Bert Lister, Ken Branagan,Paddy Pheonix (I think) and so many more over the years including Harry Dowd.

Owners vetted as suitable to own a football club by the FL who fail miserably and morally to respect and look after clubs who truly represent their town or community.

Local fans who aren't tempted to glory hunt to the big teams but stick loyally to the club who bear the name of where they live. This thing is special and should be wholly respected when some money bags fuckwit wants a football ego trip.

Stockport County, Bury, Oldham and not that far away Macclesfield. All gone.

Stockport are on the way back John. They'll be replacing Oldham.

I agree and hope so Stupot. But to do so they had to rebuild their club and set a plan for the future where everyone was pulling in the same direction.
Hopefully Bury and Oldham may do similar.,

Oldham are still owned by the same monsters who fucked them and currently are going through the funerial stage of mourning their loss.
What is crucial is what happens from here. New owners, a new plan, and new hope?

There are plenty of ex league clubs down amongst the dead men, all vying on limited means to claw their way back into the league. They are also competing with the richer non league clubs who have larger funding available and good organisations behind them.

The lower reaches of the 4th tier are full of clubs who are struggling and on the way down. The upper reaches of the non league are full of clubs on the way up with big ambitions and a lot of resources. Once out, getting back is probably the hardest job in English football.

This is definitely true. Even though opening it up to two promotion places a few years ago made promotion significantly easier, the winner of the Conference will more often than not find themselves in the position of a bottom-half-but-safe League One club within 3-4 seasons. Basically, I reckon the top 8-10 Conference teams could probably easily avoid immediate relegation from League Two if they were playing in it, with 3 or 4 of the top 6 fighting for promotion.

I would agree with all of that BiB.

I'm sure I've seen a stat somewhere that since automatic promotion was introduced from the Conference that none of the champions of the Conference have been immediately relegated. And it might even include those sides promoted through the play offs. In reality it seems there is very little difference between the lower reaches of Division 4 and the upper reaches of the Conference

I think that's true. Macclesfield came close - one place above relegation the season after promotion, before being relegated the season after

My home town club. Auntie still lives off Sheepfoot Lane on the way in. To be fair they spent most of the previous 90 years dodging re election, as it was then. The Premier time was a freak flash in the pan.

I think Burnley and Wolves both nearly went the same way.

Maybe if the likes of me and a few thousand others spent our money at Latics instead of City and United they'd be better off

But we didn't
