Tebas is trying to protect La Liga's former glory as the destination for the world's best players - Royal Madrid are probably smarting over the 'loss' of Mbappe too (I personally dont think Barca are involved - they know they cant bankroll anything serious for the forseeable future.)

This last outburst was definitely prompted by Mbappe having the audacity to turn Real down. After all, they need to keep up the narrative that it's every players dream destination. Which is why all the "stepping stone to Real" stories kept being endlessly regurgitated about Haarland.
The image being portrayed was that they would get Mbappe and we could give Haarland a bit more experience until he was ready to join them in a year or two.
But then going from being the "dream" destination of both of the worlds new top superstars, to nought has really put noses out of joint in Spain.
Barca probably haven't involved themselves in it, but if it was to their benefit, I'm sure they would.
