Juanma Lillo gone to Al Saad - Enzo Maresca coming back?

Shame it's not Vinny or Fern. Maresca was our EDS coach last year before leaving at the end of the season to manage Parma, who sacked him in November. No club confirmation yet but being touted by The Athletic as their exclusive.

Just seen PSG have put in an official bid for Kalvin Phillips - Lillo has been poached by a Qatari club. Looks very like our rivals in that part of world are hoping to damage us - giving their own club the best chance to win the CL

When Lillo arrived our approach changed dramatically for the better.
Initially we sacrificed some flair for a more solid defense, then built on that. Result was a much improved defense, we stopped conceding really soft goals and our attacking play picked up again after the readjustment.
It seemed like he was able to influence Pep and get him to focus on a tight defense before you go gung-ho in attack.

Big loss I think.

It is. He appeared to have the balls to question Pep as well which he needs

I get what you mean, but surely we won’t forget what has been taught.

The king is dead, long live the king.
Pep will no longer be influenced by the Lillo way, he will be influenced by the new assistant's way.
We know Lillo';s influence was positive, it is wait and see with the new assistant.
Hopefully, we retain the Lillo benefits and build on top of them. Time will tell.

Not happy with this at all. Our pressing way of football came after he signed with us, plus he seems the one who can convince Pep of things. He will really be missed with his experience.
Maresca is good, but he is young.

Never mind his Parma experience, that place is a shit hole full of wanna be footballers. One his ex-players is a romanian "star". One of the laziest cunts i've seen.
He will help Pep, but doesn't have the charisma and experience Lillo had.

I hope somehow we will convince him to stay, but looks like a done deal.

I really hope yesterday's defensive show was purely coincidental with Lillo's departure.
Before Lillo our defense was really bad, with Lillo it was really good.
Now without Lillo.......

We have the same defenders apart from Zinchenko that we had with Lillo . Nothing has changed with Lillo leaving , it’s early season and Laporte is injured who is pivotal to our defence. Newcastle had a right go fair play to them as it is a much better game of football when teams actually have a go rather than sit back with eleven behind the ball . Eddie Howe deserves a lot of credit .

Laporte was sensational and carried our defence last half of the season when Dias was injured.
Who exactly do you rate above him ?

I don't get all the Stones hate. 2 seasons ago him and Dias and their bromance was immense.

He was rusty yesterday - he always looks better after a run of games however.

Only worry for me is how often he's out injured - but with world cup coming i'm sure he'll be fit more often than not

Currently:

Ake
Dias

On form, stones and dias as above. He was shocking yesterday but first game in months after injury.

I love laportes passing and goal threat, but always always drops a bollock defensively in big games.

Sorry I'm saying on form stones third. Genuinely think with a run of games ake can prove he's a match.

Dropped a couple but Stones is far worse in my opinion. That foul for the 3rd goal was crazy especially with Trippier in their team.
Also Laporte's record with Dias last season is better than the Stones/ Dias famous bromance of the previous year.
Dias, Laporte, Ake, Stones for me.
