They might have gotten this wrong, surely full stadiums, minutes silence, national anthem, black arm bands is better than everyone at home.

That can all happen next weekend before the State Funeral on Monday (probably)

Can't remember, how was it when Lady Di died? Did they cancelled also all the fixtures?
Understandable decision, a normal one, if you ask me, but very complicated with our fucked schedule.

I think it's par for the course mate. It's tens of thousands of people on mass gatherings/ pissups/celebrations.
Can't be helped
Besides I have to work tomorrow and the next Saturday and would miss Spuds. So that's sorted

This is the Queen we are talking about, Diana married in and was out of royal family when she died.

The security implications of the forthcoming State Funeral are enormous. Police will be drawn in from all over the place starting early next week. Very hard to see PL football going ahead next weekend.

I am just curious, Hants, can't remember how it was.
I recall I was looking on MTV on that day and a yellow bar came on the screen asking the viewers to change the channel and go to a news one.

Why would the yanks care?
Wasn't their whole independence based on a hatred of monarchy in general?

Diana was a royal ceremonial funeral, most of the pomp etc but not a state funeral, mainly reserved for monarchs, but by discretion of monarch and parliament be offered to important figures like Churchill.
Very little difference i believe.
I remeber waking up on a sunday morning with a massive hangover and every channel on the TV had news going on and on.
The day of her funeral watched a bit of it and then played gold before going to the pub.

The PL & EFL will both be back for sure. As I posted earlier the State Funeral is going to be on Monday 19th - we'll be playing next Wednesday in the CL v Dortmund. The international sporting calendar won't be affected - see Test Match v S Africa resuming tomorrow and the Europa games going ahead last night.

There might be some truth to it - I think pretty much all other sporting events are going ahead
