Walker recovering from groin surgery. May well be out of the World Cup. Rico Lewis may get more minutes.

Not a blow at all for me. He’s been injured and chosen to go away with England and played in two games back to back. I hope he misses out on what will be his final opportunity at a WC because of it and sits at home recovering properly like he should do.

Sick to death of him and Stones.

If he looks back he’ll think, “I missed a few games for City and then went straight to play for England in basically friendlies and now I might miss the World Cup”. Actually he won’t, because he’s probably as thick as most footballers and won’t see the mistake he’s made.

I get it with Stones l, Mase but what can walker do? I don't think players can rule themselves out? Shaky ground.

That’s literally what they can do mate. United perfected it with Giggs. Walker missed Sevilla, Dortmund and Wolves and then went to play two games for England. He needs to realise that he’s 30-odd and he needs to pick his games. He’ll likely miss the WC now fingers crossed, and it would have been his final chance at it.

Cancelo and RB and Gomez/Ake at LB - we should be fine. Gomez looks good going forward, a bit of a worry defensively but all our fullbacks are.

With the barrister strikes we might never see Mendy again until he’s 40!

Gomez is very suspect defensively
Looked good going forward last night but they could've has 2 goals due to him switching off. I wouldn't have much confidence in him in PL starting weekbin week out. Not seen enough of Wilson-Ebsrand to know whether he is better

Walker himself for whatever reason hasn't been at his usual standards this season. Whether he is playing differently, a more inverted role maybe, now we have a forward, I don't know?

But Cancelo seems better at RB then LB so him playing there won't be a disaster

I like Gomez but he has a lot to learn about his positioning in defense - going forward hes actually excellent but you need to be at the back as well to have continuity in that role.

I still do not understand why we never bought a recognized fucking left back - we have had years to cover this spot but we still persevere with plugging that gap with someone like Cancelo.

Gomez is very much a work in progress from what I've seen so far. Good going firward , not so good defensively much like Cancelo. If Pep has the defence sorted for Anfield, I'd prefer he played them in the next two games but we know he won't
