I predict a heavy concentration of City blue & ex- blue in the 26 man squad when Baghead reveals it later today -

Keeper: Jordan Pickford, Nick Pope, Aaron Ramsdale

Right back: Kyle Walker, Kieran Trippier, Alexander-Arnold, Ben White

Left-back : Luke Shaw, Tyrick Mitchell.

Centre-back: John Stones, Harry Maguire, Marc Guehi, Eric Dier

Midfield: Phil Foden, Kalvin Phillips, Jude Bellingham Jordan Henderson, Declan Rice, Mason Mount , James Maddison

Forwards: Jack Grealish, Raheem Sterling, Harry Kane, Bukayo Saka, Ivan Toney, Marcus Rashford

When you think about the level of squads England had at tournaments like Euro 96 these current crop of England players seem like Championship standard.

Ben White

Just looked up the Euro 96 squad, and you're right: it might be my age and the fever around hosting the tournament, but pretty much every player in the squad was a household name (with the possible exception of Howey and Stone). I'd always thought that 02-06 were the 'peak' years for England - that's probably to do with the media fawning over Beckham and Gerrard.

Criminal that they didn’t win a major tournament but the quality of opposition was far superior than today. That game against Germany, had Gazza had longer legs when he was stretching at the far post, could have gone differently and changed that.

You know they are scraping the barrel when they select a Crystal Palace player who wanted to play for Jamaica..................

Why is the squad announced today when there is another round of PL fixtures? I heard on commentary last night that Argentina were announcing their squad on Sunday, so it isn't a question of a deadline.

Is Southgate that much of a muppet to hope any players he picks won't be selected by their clubs for the weekend games?

Southgate should have walked after the Italy final.

Twitter leaks as follows
"No Bowen or James Ward-Prowse in Southgate's squad - Guehi, Tomori, Toney and Abraham also out. Looking great for Callum Wilson, Ben White and Kyle Walker. And has it opened a place for James Maddison who had feared the worst?"
Gashford??
