Very silly boy. He will be banned and his career is in tatters

How thick do you have to be to get caught? Just use your partners account and phone

I actually dont think its a massive issue if its normal betting in matches he cant influence or has no edge in and is just punting to pass the time.

Sturridge was harshly done too as far as i remember.

It explains why squeaky clean southgate left him out.

The problem for players gambling is that they have insider knowledge, not just of their own clubs but also of friends and ex-teammates who may inadvertently let them know if players are injured or have personal issues, managers resting players etc. I fully accept that the gambling companies also have inside information which lets them price games accordingly but the table has to be weighted in their favour. The amount of money betting companies put into football is outrageous and for me is corrupt, you even have Bet365 owning a club in Stoke City. Even if this is fully above board it leaves it open to allegations of corruption.

It's not just that, but people can gamble on things outside of the 90 minutes of a game. I think both Trippier and Sturridge were punished for sharing information with friends and families about potential moves. When that happens, where do you draw the line? What if an estate agent makes a punt after showing a player a new house, or if a player's partner, parent or child shares the same news? Surely, the simplest thing would be to either prevent betting companies from taking bets on things affecting individuals' personal lives or, alternatively, making them accept that players will discuss their personal lives and futures with friends and family. Many of the rules as they stand are set up to protect bookies and the 'integrity' of gambling, rather than the game and the professionals who play it.

I was tipped off with the name of a championship manager over the summer. His famuly did well in laying bets that he would get the job. Like BiB said, where do you draw the line. Should be no different for managers or players - I'm sure that it isnt but at least use someone someone else's credentials if you are going to bet on it

Neither Trippier nor Sturridge actually placed a bet, from what I gather. They were both done for 'releasing information' that (could have) led to others profiting from gambling. Looking at the stories now, it seems the texts they sent pretty directly referenced putting a bet on their moves, but I'm sure there was a case where it was less clear cut, with someone saying they were "odds on" for a move, or "I wouldn't bet against it", which are pretty standard terms to use when you're not even talking about actual gambling.

Joking aside, if it was for example KDB who was in the same position as Toney, I have no doubt that the press would be discussing stripping us of all our titles he has helped us win and relegating us to division 2.
