Most of their online writers don't actually work there. It used to be largely a side-hustle for (predominantly) Oxbridge graduates, but they 'diversified' their writers about 8 or 9 years ago (long after many other news outlets). Now it's a self-promotion tool for anyone with a new 'angle' and their own book, exhibition or documentary that they want to namedrop.

IIRC, the ship for both teams reflects the Manchester Ship Canal.Nothing more.

Simon Hattenstone is the writer of the article, a prime mover in the anti Arab/City cabal at the paper. The ship on both club badges is part of Manchester City Council coat of arms and represents Free Trade, as in the Manchester Liberal economic & political model created here by Bright and Cobden during the 1820s. It is no more a symbol of slavery than the sea itself.

Actually, just checked, and Hattenstone is one of their employees.

No, it pre-dates the Ship Canal. It symbolizes trade, alongside the bee (industry).

by more than 50 years, it's as though nobody knows about the Manchester School of Free Trade Economics, which shaped the world we now live in.

Last month The Guardian revealed that its founder John Edward Taylor was partners with companies which imported cotton picked by slaves.

At least nine of his 11 financial backers also had links to slavery.

Oh dear

This generation of oxygen thieves is without doubt the weakest generation ever spawned - any companies or individuals who bow down to them deserve to go bankrupt.

I posted this in the wokeness topic over in the fez and nipple tassel wilderness yesterday
could not believe my eyes.....
Story by Samuel Meade in the Mirror...
Man Utd and Man City badges defended as 'part of past' amid 'links to slavery' claims
Manchester city council have said they don't want to "eradicate the city's past" amid suggestions the badges of Manchester United and Manchester City have links to slavery.
Both badges, include ships, City's being the main element whilst United's is a smaller image above the iconic Red Devil.
An article in the Guardian has highlighted the association with ships, which played a crucial role in importation and the use of goods, largely made by slaves.

fuck

me

Un fucking believable

We have a rose too...What if a slave owner had a rose bush in his garden once.... and the slaves tended it... would that mean City must be associated with slavery...??? - the horror.....!!

City must be banned forthwith....the slave owning cunts...

where does it fucking end....??

They just have to stop employing 20 year old academically bright people that have zero life experiences or lack any common sense whatsoever - you cannot employ this mindset!!

Once companies adopt this approach, then slowly but surely , they will all but disappear from positions of power and we can all get back to dwarf throwing ffs !!

All get back to dwarf throwing hahahaha!

It's behind a paywall but the telegraph have called out their bullshit:

Man Utd and City ‘slavery’ badge row is cancel culture gone mad
No wonder Manchester City and Manchester United haven't engaged with nonsense claims about the ship on their club crests
