I guess there might be a difference in what we hope a player could do in a certain position compared to what he can actually do in said position.

Phillips being a case in point.

Gvardiol is a class defender and so there are no worries with him there. If Pep and the recruitment team saw in his game qualities that suggested he could play in a different role, in midfield for example, then it might be a while before he learns that new role competently enough in training before we try it out in a match situation

That’s precisely what Pep said. He certainly won’t be playing in midfield against Chelsea.
