We own the stadium, we don’t own the ground it’s sat on. Absolutely no different from owning a house that’s not freehold. We pay £3m a season for it as we negotiated it from a per gate to flat fee the other year.

Wiki disagrees Mase, perhaps you could update the Wiki site ? We still pay rent for the building but have agreed to pay all maintenance and modification costs.

Perhaps you’re right -

Because EU & Central government money was used in the construction of the Stadium, there's a 100 year covenant meaning the stadium can't be sold. City have purchased the surrounding land & built the new training complex, a college & a school & are involved in a joint council project to build thousands of affordable homes in the adjacent area.

Terrible deal by Bernstein after Lee had agreed a straight swap with the council for Maine Road and the land around it, by all accounts. Not to mention the millions we’ve put into the surrounding area for housing.

Yeah , but inbetween time through great connections with our owners Manchester City centre is now Manchattan. Massive capital investment in the City. Not just around the stadium but all the way to Hulme and towards salford . The centre has changed. Can only be good for Manc.

The center is a dump mate  I’ve had to go into the center quite often over the last few months. I’m sure I’ve seen human shit on the floor a few times

I might have missed it, but how many seats?
Also is there a plan to extend the other ones?

New capacity said to be 60K , iirc not finalised yet because they were consulting with supporter groups who weren't happy about how many season tickets vs additional corporate and day trippers, fans want more season tickets, safe standing and singing section.

Maybe any who are involved 1894 group give more info?

South stand already extended, don't think they can physichally owt with the sides..

Reckon there is room to extend the stands along the side. East side would probably be easier as the offices and such like are in the CB stand. When compared to other comparable stadiums the sides are relatively low capacity. Adding another 7-8000 seats as a wraparound would be relatively straightforward in engineering terms.

The cost however. That’s a different question. But stadium expansion doesn’t come under FFP rules and our owners have deep pockets and want to build the best. So why not?

Build it and they will come

Torn on this one. 60K - really? I can imagine the extra capacity will come from day trippers from the far east with utd megastore bags. Major chumps league games have shown this in recent times. I get the revenue angle and its not going to affect the hardcore of our current fan base but I would not want to see a situation like at rhe swamp where there is a whole tier filled with overseas visitors or like we've seen with madrid and farca fans sitting side by side. We sit in level 2 at present so looking forward to seeing how this goes

It's already like that now. I'm in Colin Bell lower and although the people around me have largely been the same for years very few are on the cup schemes and that's when it's always tourists videoing the whole game
