We? Pep did, yeah. More man management needed if a kid comes to you and says “I want to play more and go out on loan” and then manager just says “fuck it you can leave then”.

He was very raw with us, apparently he did just need game time. We all thought £45m was good money at the time - to buy him one season later and he’d be on par with what Rice cost.

We developed the cunt to what he is now, and yet the chancing rentboys are taking all the credit. We signed the dreadful Nunes for 52m and allowed a gem go for 45m. We should have inserted a buy back clause or sent him out on loan.

An almighty fuck up from Pep that still irks me.

Thanks. But we don't really need reminding.

He scored that goal in the charity shield game I said do not let him go. Monster fuck up.

Also one in the Super Cup if I remember correctly.

No

Hindsight after the event is a wonderful thing and it isn’t something any of us possess

At the time he had a year left on his contract(?) maybe two at a push, and he had apparently made it clear he wasn’t going to sign another one. So we had a business decision to make. And who realistically would we have dropped to play him? Foden? Bernie? Doku? Alvarez? KDB? He’d have likely got similar minutes to Bobb.

Yes he went to Chelsea and had a standout season for them and managed to get on the plane for the Euros and had a couple of decent cameos. But honestly, had he stayed at our place would that have happened? No it wouldn’t. Not a fucking cat in Hells chance. He would be where Bobb is now

So IMO it was the right call to make at the time without the benefit of hindsight. And at the time there were very few Blues who thought otherwise. Sometimes a player just isn’t the right fit for a team at a moment in time and Palmer is a prime example of that

This will also undoubtedly happen again in the future. You can only play 11 guys on the pitch and sometimes a position has a few players who can play there which limits opportunities. And a final thought, how many lads from the Academy have we let go that have turned out to potentially the wrong decision? There aren’t many

Palmer had 3 years left on his contract Notts. Until 2026
We didn’t need him to sign a new contract, we needed to convince a young kid that had potential that the best place for him is at City.

It was super rash by Pep, McAtee did exactly the same thing and got told Leicester or Sheff Utd were his options.

Pep saw his arse when Palmer tried to force him to play him more. That’s the long and short of it. Unfortunately it didn’t work out.

Re-read the Palmer thread you started when he left. Not many posters were unhappy he was going. Everyone is a great Monday morning pundit

Completely agree mate, and unfortunately I was wrong.

But me and you don’t watch these players every single day. It’s not our job to judge who has the ability to make it and who is worth convincing to stay.

Like I’ve said, he was so raw here that I couldn’t see him making this impact. But again, we don’t watch them every day and Chelsea’s team that were poached from City did see that.

Absolutely true about what goes on in training. But we had him from an early age and he was with the first team squad for a couple of years, so maybe for whatever reason he didn't do enough for us to fight to keep him. We will never really know.

Aye. We move on and I’m hoping Bobb turns out to be a better, more suited player for us.

Whichever way you dice it Palmers impact has been staggering. I can’t think of a City player leaving us and being so good. He is an 80 mill player. Thank fuck Arteta did not have a punt.

Thats true but none of us are paid 20 million pounds a year to make those decisions..that's the managers job......and he really fucked up (just like Chelsea fucking up when Mourinho allowed Kevin to leave)

Sometimes you just have to fuckign put your fucking hands up and admit our manager dropped a huge bollock instead of making excuses for him.
