Wingers

Wingers

We absolutely need more from our wingers at the moment. We play with one up front so we need them to chip in with goals - this season all of them have been pathetic!

Savio - 23 Prem games - 1 goal
Bernardo - 25 Prem games - 2 goals
Doku - 19 Prem games - 3 goals

6 goals total from players that play on the wing - people take the piss out of Grealish for his goal contribution but at least when he’s not scoring he brings other aspects of his game to help us.

I know Savio is young, but 1 goal in 23 is disappointing and he shouldn’t keep getting a chance if he’s not delivering. McAtee, Nico O’Reilly etc wouldn’t, and don’t get that. McAtee for example has has zero starts and has more goals in the Prem than Savio!!!! That stat is mental.

Where are the goals going to come from to supplement Haaland’s goals?!

Totally agree

Think back to when we had Sane and Sterling. A world of difference

I did type that out about Sanè and Sterling (and then deleted it) - on another level to Doku and Savio.

Mahrez as well - didn’t appreciate him when he was here but he’s head and shoulders about any of our wingers now.

A lot of stick for Haaland yesterday - but what’s the guy supposed to do when he’s provided nothing.

I'm more concerned that the wingers are not providing as many assists as they should. We are out of kilter, if Haaland was confident in decent quick balls coming into the box he attack the penalty area and be back scoring 50 goals a season. He's being used at 40% of his effectiveness. Midfield following in behind and picking up clearances at the edge of the box and bang. Old fashioned football maybe but it'd be more enjoyable and effective than what we are watching at the minute.

Already mentioned before about playing Savinho and Doku playing on their natural sides providing us with natural width and quicker balls into dangerous areas other than the plodding, running in to packed defensive areas shite that we have experienced for the last 18 months.

I agree with you , both young wingers need to understand that their main job is to suppy crosses into the box and let it all happen. Recently they have been wanting to dribble the ball into the net.

Be under no illusion, it's Pep's tactics behind this. Marmoush is soon going to stop making those runs as the quick ball never comes. Play the wingers on their right wings but no Pep knows best. Haaland got dogs abuse yesterday but he is in the box marked by the entire forest team. Playing wingers on the wrong side makes them both come inside where every defender is backed up by their midfield. It's plain to see for all of us but not Pep. I fear he is too stubborn and will not change his ways and if that's the case no way should he rebuild the same

I love the phrase 'when Grealish isn't scoring goals'.
Basically 99% of his play ! He doesn't score goals.
If Grealish scored goals like he can neck pints, he'd be top drawer

My argument would be that the great players make something happen. Sergio always did, he would come deeper looking for the ball. Haaland’s body language is really poor and the defenders controlled him without any worries yesterday. It was an awful performance and is consistent with our fucking awful one dimensional tactics, no pace or urgency no desire to win the ball back and most importantly no counter attacking, an avenue for goals for Haaland in the past now completely gone. Something needs to be done about this malaise we are in, what that something is, god knows, but neither pep or the players seem to have any clue. Worrying times, worrying decline and a worrying lack of solutions.

So same as Savio then this season, who has scored one more league goal than Jack in miles more games. Jack wasn’t all scoring during the treble season, yet he was integral to us winning all three trophies

25-30 goals a season and the same again in assists near enough. Mahrez 10-12 goals and assists.

When you break it down like that it’s very enlightening

Grealish came to us as a £100m pound transfer, experienced in English Premier League. 12 goals scored in 4 seasons all Comps. For whatever reason he has more than halved his scoring rate since he joined us. Sav is just a kid at the moment finding his feet. Grealish helped us during our treble season but you can say that of the whole squad - Alvarez did far more than grealish ever will. I'm assuming Pep is an influence common to both players so I'm not inuding that. At the moment Sav has a bit of a honeymoon Llowance Grealish does not. Also Grealish joined a team at its peak, Savinho, Doku, Mamoush have not

A team at its peak that couldn’t win the CL… so we weren’t at our peak then. I get what you’re saying, but treble season City was our peak. Jack joined two seasons before

I don't see our wingers cut in and shoot, they usually either do a side pass or slow the whole attack down. It's odd, because Savio and Doku are both fast and decent with the ball.

I think the setup is the problem. Because at the end the balls are not searching for Erling.

Disagree Mase. We should have won the CL the year before and we had several league titles in the bag plus a few Fa Cups. We also bagged a loaf more points and scored more goals per game. Our performance in terms of goals scored and goals conceded has deteriorated since Jack came. Any serious athlete would not abuse his body with alcohol the way he does. I'd make an exception if he was a Best or Gascoigne but to be honest he ain't good enough to lace their boots

To be honest we have an over reliance on Erling and we don't play it to him, or can't find him because he doesn't make the runs

Jack is a better footballer than both our wingers put together, he doesn't lose the ball like Doku and Sav do several times each game. He's a bit of a boy for sure and if he didn't telegraph his shots he would have scored loads more. I don't think he's been managed well and I love him to bits and we definitely play better when he's on the pitch....other than the treble season a total waste of huge talent, partly down to Jack but mostly down to Pep. It's ironic that the only competition that we're still in is the one he's played most in.
