End of seasons thoughts & expectations

So, what do you expect?

I would settle with the league next year. Don't expect anything near the treble season. But, after what happened this year, I've found the hunger again, as a fan.

I'd like to see a CWC trophy, but it shortens the summer break for our lads.

We have zero chance on winning that at the moment.

I really think Pep needs to loosen this fixation on possession football. Decent teams can defend it and numerous teams hit us on the break and create numerous chances. Let them play open football, give up a bit of possession if it means we have more attempts and for christ sake, organise that defence with 2 good fullbacks. We have the players

I'm only slightly more optimistic.

The season was very disappointing, especially after how we started with Haaland scoring for fun.

My expectation is improvement next season. And not only in results but our style of play which for me has become stale and predictable

My expectation is that the boring side to side passing and predictable style of play will continue unless there is a change of manager. Pep has been brilliant but he is refusing to change his style and everyone has now sussed it out. I hope I am wrong and he changes the play next year but I can't see it happening.

We'll be better next season and confident we'll pick up a trophy or two. Pep can bow out then for me. Fast attacking football from the next manager and all the soft lads shipped out. Thanks to all the thread starters and all the posters it's always an enjoyable read.

End of season thoughts. Mmmm glad its over. Glad we finished 3rd, it could have been much worse. Glad the rags lost the europa cup and got no CL, that would have been a travesty.
Expectations. From a football perspective do not care one bit about the club world cup.

For me its all about continuing the rebuild, re-gaining the desire, hunger, getting this 115 shit put to bed (whenever that will be) and Pep having a better season. There is a fair bit to do and i do think we will be a lot better next season.

My thoughts exactly, also get rid of about 6 or 7 and bring in about 3 quality players.

I want us to lower the average age and attack a bit more freely. Similar to the 2017 squad overhaul but maybe not quite as drastic as I think we bought some good additions in Jan already.

I’d like to see at least 4-5 exits as I think their time has passed. I’d not cry over any of the following g for various reasons despite them all serving well.

Grealish
Lewis
Kova
Akanji
Stones
Mcatee
Ortega

Agreed about giving up possession. When we've not had the ball this year we've been punished, typically on the counter, so I wonder if he's a bit scared of having the team settle back a little to allow the opposition onto us then to counter.

We've seen it explained by players that our current style is all about probing for the mistakes. Possession based / camped on the edge of the area is very much a numbers game........playing the percentages, eventually the oppo makes a mistake and much of the time you'll win - but the two issues with that are that teams are coming increasingly well drilled so make less mistakes, and secondly our talent hasn't been sufficient this year to exploit the few mistakes which will happen.

So......either........we have to get the team back to the level where any mistake is punished going forwards, or we have to find a different way of playing which gives us the ability to also play to our strengths on the counter attack.

First season since Pearce where I've hated watching our matches. Glad the season is over, let's see what next season brings.

Shout-out to Nunes - I give him some stick for being utterly shite, but it's not his fault. He's given 100% the last few months and been a decent part of the squad for the run in. Fair play

Fair play Mate. My pal has said something similar to me on him. We argued back in time. I refused to allow anyone to slate Zabba even when his legs had gone.

I think if he could defend well, which he can’t, he’d be a decent prospect for that position next season. Going forward is another matter, I would say he was very good. Got a few assists and caused defenders problems because of his pace. The other problem is his susceptibility to a brain fart and there have been a few which have cost us. Overall though pretty decent.
