Training 17/8

A quiet day today as all the players from Saturday didn't come out at all but just Tevez,Petrov,Zabba,Ned,Garrido,Etuhu,Mee,Weiss,Clayton,TBH,DeJong,Vidal plus keepers.

Got a clenched fist salute from Eddie N as he went out to start to set everything up. Looked a positive fun set of warm up routines but again the other side of the field so hard to pick anything out.It all ended with a 7 a side game and a couple of notables were some good finishing from Kelvin , some excellent breaking with the ball from Nigel and finishing ( is he really just a defensive midfield player?)

Great to see Michael Johnson working again in the background , with Benjani, and a physio. My fingers are still crossed. MB popped over for a quick chat at the end. Really pleased obviously at the result but even more so as they know they can play a lot better. I think giving the ball away too often was a real issue to work on. I know that is already a feature of the training work they do so maybe part of that is getting used to each others runs and movement. MB mentioned from the stats they look at after games theat our 2 strikers made 100 sprints between them.

That sounds a hell of a lot to me. Expected from the Bellamy we know but great from Ade given that some Arse fans would have it that he is a lazy player! Barca on wednesday apparently is likely to be a full house! Not easy to treat it too lightly then although I think it will not automatically be a full side as there are still some players getting back to fitness and others not really ready for 2 games a week.

Some good news is that Vinnie is ahead of schedule and could be back in training soon. They had feard 2 months. RSC is seeing a specialist today anticipating the go ahead to resume full training.

Great news on RSC and Kompany.

Let's visit the Ade issue again when things aren't going so good for him, right now he is out to prove himself to City and that Arsenal were wrong.

I am pretty certain Nigel De Jong has never had a shot on target for City yet, so I think if we are relying on him for goals we might be in trouble.

Agreed, the stronger we are all over the park the better. Great report again Doug.

I remember his opening shot for City (vs Newcastle at home I think) being a proper stinker, high and wide (to the tune of about half way between goal and corner flag).

No, I agree, I suspect that he is not the goal machine we've been looking for since losing Bernardo Corradi

Excellent news re Rocky and Kompany though

If we can get Ireland to stop always trying to play 1 touch football then our posession of the ball will be much better. He lad had so much times on occassions against Blackburn but for some reason kept laying it off first time.

On the other hand Robinho and Tevez didn't release the ball early enough. Hopefully some more training will help "gell" the team and get them better prepared.

OMG, I had forgotten about that from last season. When he runs with the ball he is amazing, one touch shit is just giving it away, leave that crap to Robbie and Shaun.

Are you thinking of Clayton McDonald who is 8 foot tall or Adam Clayton who is a smallish midfield player?

On Mee and Clayton , they always look pretty good in training without standing out to me. It will be interesting to see if either get a look in in the Carling Cup.

I was thinking of the man mountain....too many named Clayton....which is apparently TWO as far as I am concerned. Mee should get a shout in the Carling cup, if we are starting to think like a top 4 side, we need to use these opportunities to integrate the youngsters.

Is Adam injury free again? Seem to remeber that he missed the end of last season, and he hasn't featured in any of the pre-season games, even though he was on the bench for premier league games a couple of times last season.

Surely this is a good thing, especially when teams have plenty of players behind the ball, in order to keep the ball moving as quick as possible, and pull them apart and out of position. It takes a real talent to be able to play one touch football well, surely we wouldn't want to stop that?

Disagree - we need to win something. The top 4 generally don't care about the Carling Cup, hence the youngsters. We aren't at that stage yet. The Carling Cup is the easiest to win and will take a lot of pressure off the side with a long way to go in the season. The kids who aren't going to get a game need to go on loan, so we can decide which will make it. Next season, we can play the kids in the Carling Cup.
