Training Monday 20/2

Postby Douglas Higginbottom » Mon Feb 20, 2012 12:46 pm

First day back since Porto and as training sessions go this was a gentle one.A full squad on view and plenty of exercises done today to shake away the cobwebs and get the bodies moving. They broke off into two teams ( a 10 and a 9) to work separately with Mancini and Platt but doing broadly the same things but then came back into do more exercises.

There a fair number of watchers today and this included a few drug testers who had their eyes on specific targets. It sounded like it was going to be the same players who got targeted as well from some comments made( probably best if I don't name names)After the exercises it was all over to another pitch for a passing work out.Nothing of note to mention here apart from when Mario got Silva in a scissor challenge while he (MB) was on the floor.Nothing sinister as both were laughing but I did notice the paps clicking away in the distance so they might have clicked on something different.

Then it was into the game to finish and this was lacking intensity as the first day back often and probably should do.Milner missed this to make it 10 v 10 but nothing significantthere as he looked fine in the previous game.Kolarov scored the 1st goal with a deflected effort and then Silva headed just over from a really good Yaya cross. The it seemed to be all about Mario for a spell.

First he hit the post then the bar, before Micah just stopped a certain goal with a last ditch flick away from behind. Then he brought a gr8 Stu save before he finally scored and Micah again saved a goal with a great block.Pizarro fired home and Nigel was denied in a 1 on 1 with Stu and that was that. Only just over an hour for the whole session as the players trouped in and the selected players with a somebody watching them closely.

i wonder what he's doing then?

im not sad of course, but...it just continues to be one of the more bizarre stories in the sporting world. It's got nothing on Civil War in Syria, or Ant London's black ops at the Kremlin, but...still.

Fine report Mr H. Appreciations for that.

On a singular note and from what relatively little you've seen of him, how is Pizarro looking ?? I expect the skill on the ball to be all there but what other attributes does he have i.e. what is his tackling like, how fast is he and what's his level of fitness etc etc ??

I'd just be interested for a quick synopsis from what you've seen, if at all possible, as your impressions are valued by everyone.

Cheers Doug. On the piss testers, we will have a few people that will have to tested regularly due to inadequate samples, ie. too much water and not enough substance, if you may. We have quite a few at our place who have to go back every month for a few months to ensure they're not trying to water down the results, usually people who train more than usual and take lots of water. No great shakes really.

Anybody notice the Doping squad leading Nasri and Pienaar off at the end of the game (12 mins in)?

I don't want to be negative but ................ I have a feeling that we won't be seeing him play or at best a small subs role.

I don't see him as a tackler like Nigel but he does read the game well and close things down intelligently ( more like Barry then) he moves the ball on quickly as a rule, often with short passes to keep the game flowing but he can see a pass as we saw in the one brief cameo to date.As for fitness I don't really know what to gauge him against.Seems fine to me but he isnt particularly quick and I doubt will ever go on long runs ( or even medium ones.) Has a shot on him though.

Should I post a link to here when I do the report?

Love the photo of the bloke up the ladder - I'm now officially stalking...sorry following you ;) - I can't see the harm in publicising on Tw@tter it's all in the public domain, the club know that & it might help dispel the myths that our players don't get on - depends really on why the club let you through the gates? Is it to spread the word? I know we've always loved the training insights but surely the club don't care that much about us & those on 'the other site'?
