Training Thursday 5/4

Sunny Carrington today and quite a crowd along to watch.Plenty of the usual Italian and Spanish accents plus some guys from the Didsbury OSC.Good to see the same 21 players as yesterday and this time all playing a full part expect Pizarro who missed the final game part with a slight knock.

They split into 2 groups for the initial exercises and as they did Mario was taking aim on Fausto with any ball that he could get hold of.He than managed to leap frog Micah who was just stood there! They moved into 2 big keep ball circles where it was a 6 and against 4 defenders game.Fairly sharp but also fairly gentle start up game. Then drinks as it must have been quite warm in the sun before they played that game again where one team tries to score and the other just release a player into the end zone with the ball. It's so much easier to get the touch down! But there was a worrying clash in this which had the doc sprinting over.

Micah got up first but Clichy did seem in trouble for a while but he's a good healer and with the doc's magic touch he was back playing a few minutes later looking fine. Then a slight worry as Sergio attempted something acrobatic and landed awkwardly but again he was fine.Just good to see him playing again.

Then more exercises for most of them while Mancini did a little work with Vinnie,Lescott and Micah.Drinks all round again as they set nets up for 6 a side games. The teams were:
Yellow bibs
Vinnie
Zaba
AJ
Carlos
Nigel

White Bibs
Milner
Micah
Savic
Edin
Silva

Blue Bibs
Lescott
Barry
Aguero
Clichy
Yaya

Orange Bibs
Kolo
Hargreaves
Mario
Nasri
Kolarov

Which team would you think would win?

From there it was very hard to take in everything that was going on with 2 games at the same time.Inside City was filming some so maybe in a day or so there will be some of it to watch. Here's a few highlights:
Hargreaves fouls Micah and scores and its given much to Micah's anger
Silva dribbles well and scores
Nice left footer from Carlos
Samir gets a bloodied nose and fills it with cotton wool or something
Another Silva dribble and goal, plus another just after
Super curler to score for Nigel
Zaba goal from a neat short Carlos pass
Micah intercepts well and goes on to score
Vinnie gets a goal
Silva again
Nigel to more in quick succession
Milner gets a couple
Mario smashes one in
a cracker from AJ
a neat pass from Lescott gets a goal for Barry
a 2nd ball stops Barry scoring and in the confusion Nigel breaks and scores
another for Carlos
some magic from Zaba with a Cruyf type turn followed by a Messi chip that hits the bar for AJ to tap in

It really was fast and furious and great entertainmant for the watchers and it was very competitive. The challenges were strong and the desire to win even stronger it seemed to me. Those that thought the whites or yellows might win are still in with a chance as they got to the final game to be watched by the rest.

Micah scored early with a header,Carlos equalised.Nigel could have got a yellow for a sliding challenge on Silva.Good job he saw it coming but Savic wasnt so lucky when Nigel took him out and did get a yellow. He claimed he got the ball. OK!Time was up and it went to golden goal. Then it was :
Milner missed (very close)
Carlos missed
Vinnie Missed
Milner hit a post
Carlos scored (but the ball had gone out just before)
Savic,AJ,Edin,Micah,Carlos all missed decent chances
Milner hit a post again and.....Mancini decided it would be decided by penalties.

Edin went for the silly chip down the middle and hit the bar!The next 8 were all scored and some of them were very good. Zaba's maybe the best.Vinnie had to take his again with plenty shouting to Stu Taylor you know which way to go now. He didn't!And so it was up to Carlos with the last penalty which he scored with a gentle chip straight down the middle.

Good session today and entertaining for us mere watchers.

This fella Nige, seems training he relaxes his stance, but come match day he can only pass sidewards.

He doesnt but I know what you mean. Strange too as I am sure Mancini would like him to have a more attacking approach at times but yet he does seem to overdo his defensive role.
