Training Friday 18/1

Not as green as usual at Carrington but not enough snow for a snowball fight and not enough on the ground to stop the ball rolling properly. At least on the heated pitches but even the EDS boys were out on a "regular" pitch and they seemed to be doing fine. The only problem was my viewing as the fine snow was settling on the curtain and in places it made it impossible to see at all!

At least they did their work close to me apart from the keepers at the far end who I couldn't make out at all. A full 20 on view again which was good news and Maicon was working hard on some running when I got there.Lots of the usual warm up routines, stretches and exercises to make sure there were no silly strains or pulls and I think some players were happy to be in the side wearing bibs for extra warmth. Not Milner of course as he was easiest to spot in shorts. Most players had some sort of head gear on plus gloves and snoods/Mostly wimps really.

Games with 5 a side nets,2 touch only then 3 touch in big nets with headers only to score.Barry managed the only headed goal but Pablo missed a gr8 chance and lay face down in the snow in agony! Then Vinnie scored one in the 5 a side nets. Then it was into the game to finish off what had been quite lively already and typically there was no 1/4 given in the game either.

Mario hit the bar for starters,no backlift needed for that shot
Kun set Mario up brilliantly for a goal which was given offside
Carlos did superbly to nick the ball off the keeper and then stand a cross up for Edin to head in
Dedryk headed home from a free kick from AK
Rodders was getting in some great positions but was wide and then over
Mario scored again but Kidd gave him offside.Joe congratulated Brain!
Great save from Costel from Milner

I think Carlos scored a goal
Vinnie just over with a header
top Joe save from Kun
Kidd asking Joe how well he could see when he queried an offside 60 yards away
Joe saved well from Mario
Kun just over from a Silva set up
Joe saved well again from Mario and now it's golden goal time.
Nearly from Carlos but Costel saves well
Joe saves well from Aleks and its looking like a draw ( maybe I missed a goal earlier:))
then Barry gets free down the right, crosses to Mario who bends into a good chest control and hits a volley which skims into the corner. Job done and a top finish to a good session. You wouldn't have thought it had been snowing all the time with really good effort and focus from everyone. Now for Fulham.

What do you make of Dedryk Doug? Could he fill in at a pinch?

Reckon Maicon is now fit then Doug? No more 5-minutes gasping breaks out on the wing?

:-)

Thanks for the report Dougie...Have you not replaced your ladders yet to see over the fence ? or are the conditions too bad for ladders. Must have been Cold today.

It would have to be a big pinch! I suppose he could but I would be as happy with Rekik there if needed.

He's not ready to come back yet.Judging by the running he has been doing he is over the injury whatever it was but it will be another week or probably more before he is fit enough to return.Just a layman's opinion of course

Maicon is a player I don't think we have missed on the pitch or on the bench.
I would rather see Richards back than him.
Any news updates on Richards?

Not seen Micah yet so I guess the last return date quoted is still the target and wasn't that late Feb?

just read an article that Rodwell looks in line for the bench this weekend and it sounds like he's getting some good, quality training time in. hows he looking?

Looking very good to me.It's hard to know with the injuries he has had whether he is ready. The fitness guys will have been working tirelessly round the clock to try and ensure the problems don't recur and will also dictate when he should be brought back into the action. But he looked fine to me.

Dedryck is worth sticking on the bench for that song alone.
