As things are I’d hope Pep plays Ake on the left purely on the basis of our other options not being capable of defending. Only problem here is Pep likes his full backs to get up the pitch and I don’t think Ake can do that for him.

We go into a season again without a decent one. Our best left back is our second choice right back. Its incredible and negligence of the highest order.
Mendy is finished he offers us abs nothing and is actually detrimental to the team. It broke down so many times on sunday with him.
So where does it leave us? Three games into new season and a week before deadline day with essentially no left back specialist. Do we trust the club to be able to get a quality one in time? I dont. It takes us so long to get a transfer over the line that its close to impossible.
We are in such a bad state that i look at marcos alonso and think he would be an upgrade on what we currently have. He cant defend but at least he can attack and offer something. We currently have neither. I thought angelino was really poor for us but even now im starting to think that was a mistake. Heck Danny rose could offer more than we currently have.
An attacking left back even if he cant defend will be fine, we can use Ake in the big games and that will be enough to get us through.
Its a sad state of affairs how badly our recruitment and management have slipped in the last 15 months.

I could not agree more. We got what? Ten games out of Mendy before he got crocked? That's two and a half-season without a left-back. That is inexplicable to me. Tierney and Chilwell could have been picked up at a pittance 2 season ago. Instead, we went with midfielders not good enough for our midfield. We were lucky not to get found out sooner than we were.
Almost any bog-standard premier league left-back would have been better than Mendy post-injury and Delph and Zinchenko. I am furious at the incompetence/arrogance of the management team thinking that they could continue to get away with something so fucking obvious.

Bollocks. Clichy was the shit on Kolarov’s shoe.

100% agree with this. Great what pep got out of Delph and Zinc, but it shouldn't be needed. Buy a young, strong, quick LB. You only have to look at what went wrong under Pep with an older Zabba and Clichy to see how much a more youthful approach changes the team.

Are we as bad as we're making out to be? Address left back and we can challenge for title....then again back to strikers. [sigh]

Foreverinbluedreams will come on just now to tell us all how Mendy only lost 3 games in 12 - If FIBD's was a public prosecutor you can guarantee you'd walk out that court a free man.

That was in response to saying how bad our defence was being made look because of Mendy, they do that all by themselves regardless of Mendy or not Carl.
