Cancelo. By a whisker. Gundogan immense as well. But as a team we were on it again. You can really tell these last 6/7 weeks we are together as a squad and team again and it shows big time on the pitch and in the work rate with and without the ball

As for Gundo I think he did deserve criticism for last season as I dished it out to he, Stones and Bernardo who all had lost faith in or were very close to.

Gundo was a bit different in that he was criticised when I saw him do pretty well, because some of what he does goes with less notice, but last season those things also declined quite a bit, buildup, keeping possession and his assists and goals had all but dried up. I was wondering if the injuries and age were finally catching up.

But I also suspect because he's not typically an emotional player and is so calm and "nice" that this rubs off poorly on the "louder" fans who love their Zabba, De Jong, Mancini or Mad Mario.

Firey characters on and off the pitch who are all in and appear to want to die and are aware of these fans' interests. Gundo is a quieter type and not like that so he will also be easier to go after by that group if things don't go well.

Bernardo got a bit of a pass because he showed himself to dive into the club with the trip to the pub during Centurions and the Liverpool guard of honour drink event all help his reputation.

Stones didn't play so much where as Gundo played so often and that is what riled up fans who also wanted a "true blue" like Foden to develop and felt like he was an annoying obstacle.

But times sure have changed and if we win the league due to these players' turn arounds it would be a great story and bring joy to us all regardless.

I’m glad that you are as pissed as me.

Gundo for me. This is one of the few games I didn’t lose it over him next to Rodri, I think because he and Bernardo played as more 10’s than holding players so it wasn’t as defensive as usual.
Tracking back is overrated.

Gundo deserved the criticism he got last season because he showed us towards the end of 18/19 the levels he could reach. He’s back there now so he deserves the praise he’s getting.
When you set the bar high it’s very noticeable when you don’t reach it. And sometimes players need that criticism (within reason) to realise how poor they’re playing.

A great example would be Stephen Ireland reading this forum where someone said “I’ll drive him there myself”. The season after he was class, and said in an interview that seeing that comment made him work harder.

Torres MOTM for me. Peachy.

Not by all.

Instant reaction during a City game has to be expected, it’s just the way a lot of Blues are wired.

Not really the case. They both were given loads of shit, and not only in the match thread. Conversely, Sterling was revered not so long ago.

One of the things I've noticed with Gundogan is that - in a similar way to Kolarov - he steps up when needed, but his efforts aren't really noticed too often when the rest of the team is pushing forward well. He also seems to be - again like Kolarov - a more stand-out player on European nights than in the league. In many ways, this is the complete opposite of Sterling, who'd normally bag a brace or hat-trick on a night like last night, but be a shadow of his potential when we need to press forward.

I've just looked at his stats: 8 CL goals (including a brace against Barca) and 7 against other 'Big 6' clubs (one of which was a penalty) from a total of 31. In comparison, Sterling has been almost as prolific (21 of his 108 have come in the competition) in the CL, but has scored a grand total of 15 goals against other 'Big 6' clubs (when you include the Charity Shield goal against the Dippers and brace against Spurs in the CL). Although these parameters/definitions are highly subjective, basically, 50% of Gundo's goals come in 'big' games, while only 30% of Sterling's do.

We needed 2 votes each for this one. Eventually went for Gundo, but my God Cancelo is awesome.

Same here, but went for Cancelo - but only because he completed more minutes. Think if gundog was kept on longer he would have been a cert. Both excellent, though.
