I'm not so certain it works that way.
I think they have to formally release him.
Otherwise players as far as I understand earn their wages on a weekly basis as their contract dictates.

Agree, however, we are in a situation when everyone around us is doing it and we are in danger of falling behind.
I am thinking this, let's say we sign him for 150 mil (110 Dortmund, 40 mil Raiola) and we add here a contract for 5 years. That is about 30 million for every year. Not bad, imho.
But, the real issue might be his wages. If he is asking the same as Kevin he can fuck off.

I've thought about this, too - I've wondered if he's officially contractless, but getting money from a third party, to circumvent UEFA/La Liga finance rules, until Barca alleviate some of their financial chaos... I don't think there'd be anything to stop that happening, so long as he's paying tax on the income.
