I touted Bertrand a few weeks back as a perfectly capable bargain to allow us spend money elsewhere. Funny thing is he’d probably go straight in as our best left back.

Pep very rarely makes a clever ageing signing. Sometimes u need one to fill the gap, cavani last season was a good example.

If we have limited money we dont have to pay top dollar for every position esp back up full back.

Actually whats more annoying than that is in 10-15 years we havent been able to bring through a solid back up full back from our academy. Its one of the easier positions to fill. Source the best 16 year old in the world and bring him in and in two years time he will be capable of doing that role. We should have had a punt on the 18 year old from hearts aaron hickey who went to bologna. And we should have punted on tierney before he went to arsenal, hed done the business against us in the champs league for celtic when he was about 18.
derby day the scores were level,
then the goat was fed by neville,
silly boy should know for sure,
feed the goat and he will score!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Imho, we actually did with Angelino, but for some reason, he was shipped out and we kept Mendy. Last year he was one of the best in the German league.

I thought both Ryan Bertrand and Danny Rose were good options as free transfers.

I know both are in the latter parts of their careers and not the high profile signings we usually make, but considering our ongoing struggles to find a left back and given Pep turned both Delph and Zinchenko into reasonable makeshift left backs, I’d have thought he’d easily be able to get someone like Bertrand or Rose to fit in.

Less than a month to the first PL game and its all very quiet out there.
I think chavs, murder merchants, and rags will be much better this time around.
We probably need a much better start than last season.
But it's all very quiet, wouldn't be surprised if we didn't sign a striker at all.

We will be a top 4 team this season - cannot see it being anything other than mediocre .

Just a gut feeling .

Manchester City and Germany Under-21 striker Lukas Nmecha has joined Bundesliga side Wolfsburg.

The 22-year-old spent an impressive season on loan at Anderlecht in Belgium last year, scoring 21 goals in 41 appearances.

Hamburg-born Nmecha, who represented England at youth level, previously played for Wolfsburg during a loan spell in 2019-20.

He featured for City in the Carabao Cup and twice in the Premier League.

Heard the transfer fee is somewhere in the region of £12m which to me seems rather low considering he scored 21 goals in a half decent league last season. Hope there are add ons to this and a sell on clause if true

£12m is what we paid for Patrick Roberts - a championship player that had barely any experience. We’ve sold Harrison and Nmecha for the same after having good seasons in top divisions. Our selling is pathetic to say the least.

Patrick Roberts is a mystery. He was the most sought after London player. Cannot fathom how this lad has dropped off. He had every clubs scout at his door step.

This Kane saga is turning into something similar with Koulibaly last summer. Hope we it flops and we bring someone like Ruby who wasn’t our priority.
Just hope that we buy what we need before the season starts and we don’t need a 2-5 at home to convince us.

They still have to get some high earners off their books though before he can officially sign.

But 5 years is madness. 50% of what he was on is still €60M a year. I reckon Barca will need to offload a few players on the cheap to fund this

He is 34 now isn't he.

Wow 60m euros when he is 37, 38 and 39! That is insane. Bewildering really.

I think something like 40% of Barcas revenue is tied in with Messi. Additional clauses in sponsorship contracts etc. If he leaves their revenue drops massively.

So they're pretty much damned if they do and damned if they don't with him. Terribly bad planning and financial management by Barca

Considering Haller and Joelinton both cost in excess of £40m and both came from Bundesliga where their respective goal returns were average if we are being kind, then £11m for a young guy who just scored 21, albeit in a slightly inferior league, is giving him away.

I doubt Roberts ended up costing us that though. It was more like £5m up front with add ons taking it upwards of 12m which he won't have activated.

Harrison is another give away. For an established PL player his fee is a joke

Roberts has been continually loaned out too, presumably for a fee. Maybe he's actually made us some money?
I suspect he has the wrong temprament to make it big in football, which we realised early on, and decided to try and get our money back on him.

It will be Kane and/or Grealish or nothing.
If those deals are happening:
Kane will go to the last day of the window - Levy.
Grealish we should know (either way) long before then.

A striker has to be the priority over Grealish.
All this talk of Torres and Delap etc, its just wishful thinking and talk. No doubt Pep has asked for a top striker who can hit the onion bag from day one, he has probably been asking for a year or more.
So I guess were still quite interested in and focused on Kane. And yes it wont be sorted any time soon, a saga of monumental proportions!!
Also I just cant believe we let Sergio go on the basis of signing the likes of Danny Ings
So we will bid for Kane up to a certain point. Grealish, not so sure about that one, numbers might be too high, especially given what Kane would / will cost.
I would be quite surprised if we landed the two of them, but pleasantly surprised.
