For people like my dad who is in his 70s and since having a heart attack last year has now started to rely on a walking stick, this would be great when it gets to the point he can’t physically go to the Etihad and has to give up his season ticket. He could still enjoy watching the match in a similar environment from home.

Same for people who are overseas but want that Etihad feel still.

I think it’s a harmless but useful idea.

I was thinking the same, how many disabled people for example, have never had the chance to go to a live match

I wonder what the ticketing system is like in the metaverse . MCFC really need to sort it out . Loads of metaverse season tickets holders ready to give up their tickets because they can,t download them

What I found interesting was that City estimate that only 1% of City fans globally get a chance to got to the Etihad in the realverse.
This Metaverse thingy will allow the other 99% access to virtually attend games in any seat they wish....at a price??????

Considering you have to sign up and pay a fee to watch |match replays on City+, how much income could this virtual stuff generate?

Of course this is a money making scheme. And it is likely to be a very good income source. Mentioned earlier in the thread I reckon in a relatively short time period we will see a lot of under 25s who watch football this way. Stadium noise and the atmosphere can be transferred into the headsets giving a realistic experience of being at the game. Imagine if 50000 or 100000 fans paid even just £5 for this for the games. And of course it could be rolled out to the away games as well. If we pull this off it will be groundbreaking

If it was 5 quid or thereabouts to watch the match that way, it would be the death of streams

Which for the club would presumably be a good thing? As more people then pay us?

Hmmm.

Plenty of folks, me included, wouldn’t be using any new technology to watch sport. Sport on normal TV is always gonna have its place

I have not missed a City game for over a decade and I have not had a telly for eight years.

Exactly.

I wonder will you get optional commentary? And who would provide it.

Will it ultimately get rid of the bias commentary whilst giving an almost authentic match going experience? I would ditch bt and sky in an instant if that's the case

From what I understand it’ll me like a proper match day experience. No commentary, it’ll be like being with the fans in the stadium.

Kids will love it. My generation or older will probably hate it.

Thanks for explaining that. I hadn't a fucking clue what the article was about.

At the end of the day, just another way to make money so.

On the point of 'who gets the money'?
Currently, the global media companies earn £trillions globally from football. There was an idea floated that the Premier League should set up their own broadcasting company and bypass the current media companies who basically rake of the cream of the profit.
All clubs would benefit as would football and then the fans.

Should City set up a Metaverse site, it would be income direct to City, with City in direct control of the output, not just games.
On the face of it, it sounds a brilliant move to change viewing of City globally from merely sitting watching a screen to an experience of actually attending a match.

With price of tickets grossly inflated, many traditional fans have been simply priced out of their football fix.

The big question will be where City set the price. Too low and it could decrease actual attendance and too expensive and it still leave the poorer genuine fan out in the cold.
A third option would be to lower tickets prices for attendees (is that a word)? to a price that reflect a better affordabilty allowing genuine fans to be in the stadium,

Football used to be a working class game, now it is increasingly becoming a money making racket.
