If I'd been away with England and played about 30 mins I'd have been on the phone to Pep telling him I was fit and raring to go and be straight back. Especially when one of the other players challenging for my spot was playing the world cup final and staring too.

But at the same time, if the club have given players a set amount of time off after the tournament and he's not breaking any of the rules set by the staff that's that is fine too, he'll probably have to make do with a bit part role though.

Belgium and Germany did exit the tournament a week before England, so the English lads did play 2 further matches (aprt from Philips and Grealish!).

Phillips should be back and chomping at the bit - the world cup would be an ideal chace for him to train to get fit and have a few games to stake a claim whilst Rodri is on a break

Yep. He’s not guaranteed a first team place and he has just had a holiday in Qatar with his Mrs. Anyone with common sense would be back showing Pep they’re ready to go and not stuffing their face with pizza.

No one is saying City should dictate where he goes, they’re saying he should come back and get his head down. There’s plenty of time for family holidays for him that aren’t during a season.

We can’t compare footballers to Joe Public. You’re not paid £10m a year for a career that will be 15 years (if you’re lucky) where after you can go retire at 35 knowing you, your kids, your kids kids, their kids will be set for life. You can go on as many trips to NY and eat as much pizza as you want then.
