Not sure about that. I think it's a confidence issue. He was very promising before his long term injury, but he hasn't been able to get back to that form since he's back.

He need to find that confidence / form again quickly, though, or his city days are numbered.

He isn’t physical enough. Has a nice touch but gets knocked out of possession too easily. His upper body strength isn’t there

I liked him when he first came through, but he hasn’t elevated his game. Injury has probably hindered that to be fair to the lad, but that’s life. I can’t see him having a long term future with us and can see him going out on loan this month with a view to cashing in what we can

I still think that apart from Grealish and Gomez, who are championship standard, that we've enough there to do much better.

Teams always seem to play out of their skin against us and we let them. What really pisses me off is that if we lose this Southampton will lose the next round 5-0 whoever they’re up against

I don't disagree with that.

Laporte would much rather have Stones beside him and Walker or Lewis at RB. Rodri on this showing streets ahead of Phillips. Obviously we miss Kevin’s creativity and Haaland’s goal threat.

If we by some miracle get a draw, does it go straight to penalties?

no he is one of the most experienced out there tonight. He delays his passes, gives other players less time on the ball. He should be commanding that backline and he isn't - so far.

In all honesty, there is part of me wants to bow out and focus on the bigger prize. Yes I'd love us to win it and I'm not knocking it, I keep thinking we could end up like the vermins last season if we go full strength in every competition. The other part, if we fail with the big ones, we could end up potless.

Not excusing today's performance as things stand

Gomez looks like he won a competition to be out there but couldn’t pick out one player that’s even played to anyway acceptable level let alone say played well. Alvarez not had one pass that he could have done anything with.

Walker substituted twice at half time. Two defenders at 2-0 down. Can see the logic of the individual decisions but it’s a little strange.

Rico Lewis appears to be nailed on to start the derby
