Declan Rice

Declan Rice

Seems to be gathering a bit of pace so I thought it deserved its own thread.

BBC reporting that WHU have turned down Arsenal’s bid and they’re expecting City to bid.

Would we take him? I’ve barely seen him play - any good?

Also rumours of WHU interested in Phillips so may make a deal a bit easier. Would be a decent move for Phillips as well.

We will need someone.
Rice is a good player who would only improve under Pep.
Phillips thought he wanted to stay, but it looks a possible swap plus cash deal. West Ham are OK to deal with I think.

My worry is we wait for Gundo and Bern to make their minds up and/or a reasonable offer to come in for Bern, and we end up missing out on these players we’d be interested in. I think a line in the sand needs to be drawn and we go get our targets.

Exactly this, we need to tell the players to "shit or get off the pot".

Their indecisiveness will.hamper our transfer strategy. Get the re-signed or sodded off ASAP, then move quick before other clubs nab our A list targets.

Our failure to move quick will be an issue. Other clubs will know this and look to get their deals done before we can make our move.

I would imagine the club already know if they’re staying or going, it’s just a case of when the announcement is made. My guess is that if they were staying it would already have been announced. I would imagine their transfers are being negotiated right now. We will know soon enough, I really hope they stay, if not we will just treasure the memories and wish them well.

This is where I am. I think the club know and we will be looking to strengthen accordingly.

Can't say I see the hype about rice but he's tidy enough. Youth on his side too. I'd be happy to just let gundo go now while he's at the top. Rice for kalvin and cash makes sense, it would allow us to rotate central midfield between kev, foden, rodri and rice. Kalvin going the other way reduces the fee. Win win in my book.

Not sure about the lad myself either.

Looks OK, but for £100m I want more. Him and Phillips have been the mainstay of Southgates England midfield for a few years now. And look how out if depth Phillips has been. Of course there's no knowing how Rice would do. But West Ham have really struggled this season. And of course there's lots of reasons for that. But a truly world class player should be able to lift a side and elevate those playing around him. And for me, he hasn't anywhere near done that.

If we was priced more reasonably, say at £50-60M then yes, he'd be a great acquisition. But not at £100+M

If Rice comes in it’s hard to see Phillips having much a future at City whether he likes it or not.
Rice would play regularly plus offer much needed cover for Rodri who played too many minutes this season because Pep didn’t fancy Phillips in any matches which mattered. A pacey winger to replace Mahrez would be good if he takes the Saudi cash.

What's the alternative?

Plenty of players in world football. I'm sure our scouting network is better than my scant knowledge though.

Is he better than Mount for example? Or even Joelinton?

Real Madrid hoovered up them all (Camavinga and Bellingham) the bastards. Mount is wank, stay well clear. We could go back to Lavia? It's not just about talent; character, hunger and leadership. I don't know, over to you Pep

I want him, to be honest.
He looks like a leader, but most of all, doesn't come of as a bellend like Bellingham does. He seems he has his act together and that is something we always cared about a player.

But even if we bring him in we still need to find another one of Bernie leaves.

Wrong position for me. We have the best in the world, spending 100m on a back up doesnt make any sense
derby day the scores were level,
then the goat was fed by neville,
silly boy should know for sure,
feed the goat and he will score!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think whoever he signs for he won't want to be back up to anybody so can't see him coming to us.

At this stage we should all know... its not about how he plays now, it's about what pep would turn him into.

And I'm done guessing what pep is going to do next. Once it's not leaving, I'm fine with it.

I think rice could do more in an advanced role tbh
