The Connel story has been disputed for quite a while now JC.
A few years ago on here, I questioned why, when I was a kid, City's foundation date was always stated as 1880 but later changed to 1894. I wanted the 1880 date reinstated.
Gary James asked me to stop as he was researching St Mark's activities pre 1880 but hadn't at that time found conclusive proof of an earlier date.
The major problem for City historians has been that much of City's archives were destroyed in the fire at the Hyde Road Ground in the 1920s.
