I can't bare to see wet drip and Bell-ingham winning anything. Not to mention the media's jizzing over it.

- There seems to have been a massive farce with football stickers, and no kids are collecting them (which is the first sign on the streets that a competition's coming up)
- All kinds of big sponsors seem to not be promoting the competition here, so no branding in the shops (except Lidl and some electronics manufacturers - no Coca Cola, beer brands, crisps and other snacks, though)
- There are loads of other events happening around the city (outdoor concerts, festivals, etc.), so no fan zone/big screen has been announced yet. Also, 2 of Serbia's games are 9pm kick-offs, so policing outdoor areas could be a hassle
- From a footballing perspective, Serbians are incredibly pessimistic about the team's chances
- Another thing is the fact that this is the first competition held in summer without COVID restrictions since 2018; basically 6 years have passed since the last event like this, and a lot of people have other priorities, with the younger generation never having got into the swing of things

We're 3 days away from the opening ceremony, and basically nobody gives a toss.

what would a combined team from the former yugoslav countries look like? reasonably decent surely? probably not as good as it would have been 3/6 years ago when modric was at his peak... they would have some good players... josko, kova, mitrovic, oblak etc...

I think now you're getting a more 'real' impression of what a Yugoslav team would look like. Throughout the mid 2000s up to maybe 2020 a lot of players for ex-Yugoslav countries were born/grew up abroad, as a result of the wars and economic crises of the 90s (and the tail-end of the 'gastarbeiter' system), and benefitted from foreign infrastructure. I don't think players like that would have ever come into consideration for selection for the Yugoslav team.

Nowadays, that's far less the case, except for Bosnia & Herzegovina, where the local infrastructure is virtually non-existent, emigration has increased, and the national team's administration is more controversial than ever before (basically, it's incompetent and corrupt whoever runs it, but recently it's been overwhelmingly Serb, so the Bosniaks are saying the issue is because they're Serb, rather than because they're incompetent and corrupt, whereas when it's run by Bosniaks, they say it's because they're incompetent and corrupt, rather than because they're Bosniaks). I think only one of Croatia's squad is born abroad (Stanisic) and the same for Slovenia (Lovric, although Ilicic is born in Bosnia & Herzegovina).

But, yeah, when excluding all those factors, and considering all players who represent former Yugoslav countries, there probably aren't many tournaments (both Euros and WC) in the past 20 years where a Yugoslav team wouldn't be odds-on to reach the QFs, and a fair few where they'd have been dark horses to win the thing. Having said that, probably over 50% of the squad would be Croatian, with only 3 or 4 non-Croatians having a decent chance of being in a starting XI.

Missed the game, was playing footie. However, of all the comments about the Scotland match, i liked the one where someone asked , "Why was Trossard refereeing ?"
I guess it was a foregone conclusion that Scotland would get trounced.

Personally, i was hoping to see the Scots get an early goal and make a game of it, to see if Germany had any metal, but it didn't happen.

Watched Hungary vs Swiss, mostly at Akanji. He made a 60-70 meters pass towards the end. Perfectly.
I swear, Pepito really improved a lot of them. Class

Just looking at that Spain lineup. It's night and day from the level of that brilliant team with iniesta etc.

Very average.

Apart from the animal that is Rodri of course

Only watching the Euros to see how our City players fair. Happy to see Rodri vs Kov & Gvardiol as long as there are no injuries.

Not really arsed about England to be honest as i don't like Southgate and can't stand Bellingham , will just watch to see if Foden does well. Given up on Stones.

Great start to the tournament though with the jocks getting an absolute pasting, Thanks Gundo

Spain now 2 up. However, it is a ding dong 5 mins and croatia had two clear chances. Could be 2-2.
