I think the fact that he likes a small squad is the problem that has come home to roost. We have been the most successful club, which means we are playing more games that any other team. The small squad means more minutes on the pitch for key players and very little respite.
This in itself will cause injuries (like Rodri's whinge), so we need to expand the squad. Get rid of nobody in January, get 3 decent levels players in, and look to replace in the summer
We need to help the existing players rest this season, and we need additional bodies to help us achieve that. If we don't bring anyone in then it's going to be a Chelsea or Rag season of finishing 8th and likely going into that god awful uefa conference debacle. I would rather finish 10th to make sure we missed it if that was the case.
We are taking a huge risk giving pep 10s of millions in the worst month of the year.
It’s a huge risk given the fact that if it doesn’t work out he’s off in the summer for the new manager to come in and pick up the pieces that pep might leave behind - it will be a huge task to get rid of half the garbage we are now lumbered with.
That in itself will be a mission .
I’d rather we work with what we have as it’s STILL good enough for a top 4 spot - no matter what the pep apologists say and if it doesn’t work out then give the new manager a war chest to do what needs doing.
