I thought Enrique said he was leaving PSG at the end of this season?

That was a rumour mate which he came out and denied.

It doesn't matter any more , the low block style of defending will still take place. It happens against scouse, the Arse ,even the rags. Enrique is no improvement on what we already have.

It therefore comes down to who is best equipped to beat the low-block defence. Arsenal have found a way this season where we have failed the last two. If Pep stays it will definitely be three on the trot. If someone else comes in with new ideas that get implemented, it might work. It might not. At least we will have tried something.

Arsenal are even more boring to watch than us though.

Arsenal time waste at corners and throw ins , use crowding to get own goals. Feign injuries, etc etc. Not exactly a great footballing skillset.

We have played against park the bus teams forever and a day. Poor excuse

The way to beat it is certainly not breaking as slow as you can then going sideways and back into our first half???

All over UK Newspapers some slightly different interpretations to others suggesting it will be after the Carabao Cup Final. I suppose we will see.

A break after the Carabao cup? We don't play for 2 weeks so no doubt he will have a break.

We will indeed, mate.

I am somewhat skeptical of everything these cockroaches (copyright johnny crossan) say.

I couldn't figure us out in the first half, we looked really solid, but it seemed really difficult for midfield to find an outlet. Bernie and rodri were uncharacteristically being caught in possession and giving the ball away a lot as Arsenal did an outstanding job of closing us down the minute we looked to cross the half way line - Rice and Zubamendi did a great job of that, as did their fullbacks tucking in a little - it was very pep-esque defensively from Arsenal first half.

2nd half I can't figure out, did we step it up, or did they just press the self destruct button?

It's not often I struggle to pick tactics, but I honestly couldn't get a measure of the game we were playing yesterday.

Great win nonetheless

Neither could arsenal, mate.

It was like positions did not matter. A player can wander a bit to create some confusion and someone will be intelligent enough to cover should we lose the ball. It was great to watch, the best we have played for a long time, though I thought we did very well v madrid in the home leg as well..

Its a reaction to strict man to man marking which has become more common these days (and Arteta/Arsenal does a lot).

Kompany's Bayern does this in the extreme where you often see Kane dropping next to the keeper to receive the ball and their wing backs making runs normally a striker would make. The whole point is to stretch the players marking into positions that they are not comfortable in and exploit that (think a CB marking Kane ahead of his strikers or an attacking mid tracking a run back to his CBs.

Exactly, this is where zonal marking keeps players in the positions they are strongest/ most comfortable in.

This is what we did to Arsenal

I think it may be a reaction to our second half collapses we've suffered from this season, most notably against spuds.

The cup game at Newcastle followed a similar pattern, possession and no penetration first half with the usual passing round the outside of their box, and much more direct and fluid second half.

That's another one in the cupboard for potless Pep. A name given after his first season. Not too shabby ten years later. On my way back down to the city, they'll be some timid arsenal fans when I get there. Thanks Pep, love turning those fuckers over. Serious issues in Arteta's head now.

This is what we did to Arsenal

What we did to Arsenal was to execute in basket ball terminology, a 'half-court' press. Our normal style is a full court press, where as most teams we play against of lower sbility simply go for zonal defence. ARSENAL could find their men to pass to playing out from the back and the keeping playing for time simply played into our hands. Very effective
