And now he's having surgery before the season starts so he'll miss playing for us for a few months

I might be a bit cynical, but it feels like he’s taking the piss.

Agreed. If he signed a new deal and then had surgery then fair enough. But for nothing to be agreed and him now go and have another surgery it feels like a kick in the teeth.

The club have supported him throughout the past two years - more importantly paid him for fuck all.

Rodri is reportedly set for surgery on a minor back issue.

Spanish publication Larazon has provided a fresh update on Rodri’s mystery injury. As per the Larazon report, Rodri is scheduled to undergo minor surgery on his back injury once the World Cup is complete. It is also reported that the surgery that Rodri will undergo is considered an ‘in and out’ procedure which will take ‘less than 15 minutes’. Furthermore, it is reported that Rodri isn’t expected to miss any time during Manchester City’s preseason when he returns from his time off after the World Cup. It is expected that the Ballon d’Or-winning midfielder will be ready for the beginning of the 2026-27 season.

The latest update on Rodri’s mystery injury is positive news for him and Manchester City. Rodri has been fantastic for Spain at the World Cup and he looks to be back to his elegant best and the injury issues that plagued him last season look be behind him. If the Larazon report is correct, the mystery injury Rodri has been carrying is only a minor back issue. The surgery he is set undergo is only small, so it would seem that he will be ready to begin the 2026-27 season with Enzo Maresca’s side.

I really want Rodri to be a key figure for us but I have my doubts and believe he will move on. I'm not blaming Rodri he has done well for us but the environment in the football industry now isn't conducive to loyalty to one club and in my honest opinion I don't think players give a fuck about the fans or club they play for unless they already had an emotional tie to them before joining.

I felt that if Spain won the WC it would be commercially very attractive for Real M to have the spanish winning captain in their team, they are very commercialised, even though they will get him for free in less than 12 months, If a reasonable bid comes in we might accept.

He is most certainly not signing the contract so a decision needs to be made and made soon.

Rodri is a rolls royce of a player. He will be a massive miss if we get rid of him. However, his stock is as high as it ever will be right now and he either signs an extension or we cash in on his WC performances.

Correct. I’d give him two weeks to sign a contract extension or be sold. But only for market worth. A fee of £50/60M should be the starting point. As captain of the World Cup winning team and player of the tournament and a recent Ballon D’Or winner his stock is sky high. Otherwise we may as well keep him and let Anderson learn from him

Or he'll stay and run his contract out and in the meantime get himself fit and tickety boo for his next club.

Cynical I know.

Fernandez defends Argentina as Messi questions remain

"For years, this group has represented the team in the best possible way. It teaches that competing isn't just about winning; it's about giving your all for the jersey and never giving up.

And what do we do? Play him? Give him the captain's armband? Bend over?
I would be fumming if he stays and is chosen as the new captain

Course we play him.
No chance he should be captain though if he doesn't sign, give that to Guehi.

Agreed. Love Rodders but IF he wants to run his contract down he doesn't get the armband. We can argue whether we should look to sell if he doesn't want to sign, but the club will know this and they can deal accordingly.

My take is that I wouldn't play him after what happened with Walker. We kept him against his desire and we ended up letting him go a few months later after dreadful performances.

I see the club keeps posting shit about him now, sucking him off a bit on our social channels. I really hate this desperation I see from our part. Sad for me.
I feel we aren't as ruthless as we should be.

Nothing like the same. Walker was on the decline, had been for a bit. Wasn't in the 11 for Istanbul.
Rodri is one of the 1st names on any teamsheet when fit.

I am not paying his wages but let's just suppose I was :)

I'd make life uncomfortable and force him out not give him a year off work to get fit for his next club, I don't give 2 fucks about players no and I wont invest any of my passion in them because the days of muddy boots and drinks down the social club with your hero's have gone.

Next season we might see Bernie, Rodri and maybe (Probably not) Haaland lining up for the Spanish bastards, I will be very suprised if at least 2 of them aren't.

It's about time clubs and fans became as loyal as the players.

If I was paying his, wages I'd want maximum return and seeing as how we've won the league every year we've had a fit Rodri it's a no brainer.
If he chooses to run the contract down then like Bernardo last year so long as he's performing I'd accept it but would not have him as captain

Not guaranteed he will be fit for the season based on recent history -
Not guaranteed we will win the prem with him -
Not guaranteed he will sign another contract -

What is guaranteed is we could get around 50 to 60 million for him if we sell him now and seeing as we just bought his replacement for 116 million then it's a no brainer for me.
If it was my decision and MY MONEY, it's a no brainer to sell him now.
THEY SAY SWEARING IS DUE TO A LIMITED VOCABULARY. I KNOW THOUSANDS OF WORDS, BUT I STILL PREFER "FUCK OFF" TO "GO AWAY"

Sell him now, get the money for another midfielder.
Great player but the club is always bigger than any one player. They all come and go.
We move on now, dont want this saga to drag on any longer, if your going, get your new best mate perez to stump up the cash.
Have to say I am disappointed in Rodri he's acting cunty now.
I suppose some people have short memories. Very short ones.

He's on the back of a mega World Cup and if we could have him WITH Anderson next season then that is one hell of a central midfield.
