Would be a good buy in my opinion and provide us with great depth

I don't think it's a great transfer, but it is good for us and when we need some depth, he's genuinely better than the attackers we've just shipped.

I guess my concern mirrors Notts in that we're paying 85m for a bench player.

Honestly don't really give a fuck what we pay for players. Matchday revenue is a pretty small part of the overall revenue for the club that raising ticket prices reflects more of the owners priorities than an actual attempt to offset any transfer fees

That said I think he"s more backup for Haaland than a winger/ wide attacker but if so, it is a liot of money at the rumoured price. Having seen him a few times, it's a no from me let him go to Spurs.

Can’t understand effectively giving him away seeing as his contract expires next summer

I’d still choose Jackie over Gakpo.

Jack looks like he's aged about 10 years since he went to Everton. After more pics of him passed out in the afternoon surrounded by bottles came out last spring it's pretty clear that his career is over. Either be a professional athlete or regularly go out and get smashed. The only players good enough to do both are players like Ronaldinho - and even he faded out too soon.

Yeah I guess his ship has sailed.

Still don’t want Gakpo though for the money

Really feel very flat about this one. The thought of giving them a penny is awful.
Should have went for the lad from Everton.

I'd tend to agree with this. Liverpool was toxic last year with the Salah show.

If you look at his contributions in the seasons where Liverpool were any good, he achieved a good output despite not completing many games. It may seem he played 35 or so games, but actually he was subbed on in 16 of those, and didn't finish the rest.

That last part I'd be interested to better understand why he's not completing games, but if I ignore the price tag, he seems like as a CF who can play wide in a 3, he's not a bad option.

I would take Gakpo on a free. But as we're having to pay a humongous sum, I would expect a game changer of a player or one that I would be excited to watch.

I have seen Gakpo over a hundred times watching dipper games on TV and he is just average, not a player I think we need in our ranks at that price.

Just my opinion but he isn't exactly a world beater

I don't watch Dippers too much, but he seems to come up with the goods towards the end of games. Even if he doesn't sparkle for the 1st three quarters

I don't watch them at all, unless they're playing us, but everytime they're losing or drawing late on and I'm hoping they drop points he seems to save them.

looks like the deal is off now. And while he's good, he's not good enough to care about him not coming. Give McAidoo more minutes

Well now Scouse have an unsettled player in their squad. Good work by City. Blame is all on scouse for failing to get their replacements in

Cannot argue with this. For less I think we have a better fit with Ndiaye. Happy for the scouse to try and get Gakpo to Spurs or have him unhappy and picking up the wages on the bench. Mind, Isaak will be out injured again soon..

It's hard to see anyone else stumping up the cash for Gakpo, so I'd say this is a great result overall - and I wonder if we even genuinely had any interest given the speed the everton player was signed under the radar.

Now they have an unsettled player they may struggle to get rid of, plus Isak and Wirtz struggling, liverpool seem to have hit the buffers big time since Klopp left - Slot's title win with Klopps team seems very fortuitous now in hindsight.

It's a salutory warning for us though about the perils of transition - albeit arguably there's no doubt now this is Maresca's team with the entire midfield replaced, so he stands on his own 2 feet now and lives or dies by his results.

I'm quite excited - the club have done some excellent business in the last few weeks.....a little later than we'd have liked, but the squad is shaping up very nicely.

Whilst I did not want Gakpo at that price, we do need cover and competition for Haaland.
