Given for me, he's the finished article, one of the best keepers in the prem. Joe is a diamond, but uncut and unpolished.

Hoping Joe will either get plenty of game time with us or anouther loan - a season with more experiance under his belt and i can see him really challenging!

Sis said it so well and cant argue against her reasoning neither

It is understandable why some may be clouded by emotion as we allways look to get the youngsters through.

Let's be clear about the bit people are missing, is everyone aware that Given probably has the worst distribution of any 1st choice keeper in the league?

Hart for me.

For me Given needs to be replaced next season, but I guess most of you know my opinion of him. Of the 2 I feel Hart is better, but can see us signing a first team goalie and having Hart as #2. Stuart Taylor has to go, I think Gunner will get a loan spel and Given sold on

I think it's deluded to think Given will be sold. I will come back to this thread when Joe does plays and he makes some shit pass or minor mistake because he will get rapped on here like he has done in the past and like Shay does now.

People have such short memorys, when Joe was No 1 he was slated on here, let's goals in through his legs, don't come for crosses, don't command his area and so on.

If we are looking for the ultimate keeper who can kick, catch and save then who we going to get cause I'm sorry all the best ones are taken, Reina has just signed a new contract, Van Der Sar is nearly 50, Iker C is never going to leave Madrid, Julio Ceser will not leave the Italian champs and Buffon told us to piss off so IMO keep Shay and bring back Joe as his " understudy"!!

We need a number 1 for all the League and European Matches next season and I'd prefer to stick with the experience of Given for one more season. However, thought has to be made on how to keep Hart happy.

For me it's a no brainer. With 2 players of almost equal skill then go with the one who has the brighter future, which is Hart. If Given is a better keeper than Hart it is only a very marginal difference as both are world class. Personally I would give up a couple of points in the coming season due to lack of experience if it meant gaining more points in the seasons to follow from having a settled back line where the goalkeeper and defenders have a better understanding of each other.

I feel there is little difference between the 2 of them and I would be worried that Joe might ened up somewhere else permanently if we don't have him as number 1. If we cant loan him again I would hope Mancini looks beyond the next year and recognises Joe will be a top top keeper for many years to come and it would be a nonsense for us not to have him.

They've both got their pro's and con's. I'd prefer a mixture of both but I suppose it's too late to swap DNA?

I'm looking forward to seeing Joe between the sticks and hope that he has a good start to the season, then we can see who is going to be the Number 1.

I fully and totally concur with sister of fu's comments on this thread. The keepers union is strong my friends. Very strong.

Ps. I was sof's understudy for a couple of days. Good times.

IMO Given is better goalkeeper right now, despite the clear improvement Hart has made. So Given for me.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Given is an outstanding shot stopper but Hart is very close behind him on that score and better at everything else! So it's Hart for me.

We are very lucky to have both at our club, one for now and one for the future.

Hart has made great strides this season and has held his own at the top level. I would love to see him get some action in the world cup and build on his experience, for me next season I would like to see a fair fight for the no1 jersey.

Right now, I would say given has a slight edge overall, but I would be willing to put Hart in as Number 1 and be confident he would do a great job and go on to become Englands no1 and one of the best keepers around and maybe the world if he continues his impressive apprenticeship.

We will be a top club - we should do things like a top club - not just changes strategy due to some 'event' or media crap

Given for 2 - 3 more years
Hart loaned out to improve further 2 - 3 years - he has improved this year so it has worked so far - then Hart to return for a transition year and Given to then fade out into support role - Hart will still be very very young for a top keeper

Meanwhile ensure we have proper back-ups

sounds great in theory, however, I think Harts resolve will be tested by other clubs coming in for him. HE has shown how good he is and has the potential to be. I can see Arsenal launching a credible bid to turn his head in the summer.

We need Hart back at the club and playing next season if we are going to hang on to him.

We can't keep loaning him out to our competitors and giving them the advantage of having a world class keeper in their side.

As well as this we need to make Hart feel needed. We can't afford to piss him off by asking him to keep going out on loan for the next few years whilst we wait for Given to burn himself out.

Get him back at the club and play him in the league games, Given can have the cup matches.
