You have to be deluded if you think he will be performing for us like he has done for the scouse over the last few years.

Its a 100% no from me.

He's a born winner and a top athlete. Thats what spurs him. I think there's much more to him and his success as a footballer than just being a passionate Liverpool supporter.

with liverpool.

He think he also has prof pride and wants to win the EPL, but this debate is actually a load of bollocks as he aint going to come to City!!

That's a presumption on your part.

Who's to say that he won't not perform better with a new start at a new club that is being run properly and clearly going places?

I have heard it all now. Gerrard not good enough for City? Maybe we should buy Xavi and Iniesta instead!

Gerrard's fitness problems are often caused by him being rushed back. He's a top player and would be a great signing. He's the kind of player who can drag a team along with. Those kind of players are worth their weight in gold.

Im with you on this mate.He has been the driving force at Liverpool for years always coming up with the goods in big games and having to carry others.
Hes also a leader and an example to the players who play alonside him.Hes pretty much the complete midfielder i would love to see him play for city.

Not read the thread because at 4 pages I know there's got to be plenty of 'He's too old', 'He won't cut it', 'He'll be Crap other than at Liverpool' etc.

For me, he is one of the best midfielders in the game who has lost a bit of heart this season. If we had a chance of signing him then I'd urge our owners/manager to do it in a shot and have a younger understudy working alongside him to gain the wealth of knowledge and experience that is invaluable for future generations.

I think we all have to accept that the vast majority of players we see coming to City will not love the club. They will want to win honours of course but it will not be exclusively for us as fans, it will be for the heightening of their career and the status of having won honours somewhere. Unfortunately the further up the football ladder you progress the further removed from the supporters you become. So for me its a big yes to Gerrard even though he won't have an affinity for us. However, given the threat level he reportedly received when Chelsea were buying big from the scouse idiots any move he makes will likely be abroad. To Jose at Real?

Giving Scouse1 40 mill for a player who is on his last legs and is the physical embodiment of a club makes no sense. This would be Patrick Vieira part 2.

I would sign Ballack on a one year deal though as he is not Mr Chelsea. He would provide the necessary experience.

In addition to Ballack we need to sign a future star for our midfield. A player that is going to spearhead the mid for the next 8 or so years.

Yes to Gerard, though £40M is clearly made up and even more clearly too much. He changes games and I'm sure some of his form dip is down to Rafa.

No to Ballack. Well past it. We have enough of that type of 'experience'!!

Steven Gerrard is a fine player who has proven his value time and time again in the Premiership, Champions League and playing for England. That he has had a poor season this year is as much due to Liverpool's poor form as a team as to any weaknesses in his individual performances. He would probably benefit massively from a move away from Anfield as he would not be required to constantly be Liverpool's saviour time after time. At City or Real Madrid or anywhere else, he could simply be a very skilled and motivational midfielder taking his place among equals and not bargain signings fitted in a club jersey.
Would welcome him to City, or for that matter anyone else who puts on our jersey. Didn't really care for Gareth Barry or Adebayor before they became City players and it would be the same for many with Gerrard after the initial shock wore off.

ridiculous. You question Gerrard's form and fitness and then go and suggest we should sign Ballack. For your information he has been carried by his team mates for two seasons now. Doesn't contribute much anything on the pitch. In fact, I'll take my chances with Vieira.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Ballack would provide squad depth and experience. We wouldn't have to promise him that the squad would be built around him.

Stevie G would require those promises. In return we'd be getting 3 years out of him. Plus we'd be giving Scouse1 money. I don't like that.

I said it before, I'd take Gerrard because he's a very good player, but more importantly because it would take liverpool's soul away.

Would he imporve our squad? Fucking right he would and that's who we're in the market for. Let the money men worry about money matters.

Gourcoff would improve our squad. And he'd grow as a player and be with us for 10 years and we could build a team around him. Or Ribery. etc

It's not a question of talent though, he is a very talented player and easily on par if not better than anyone else in this squad, it's a case, among other factors, of getting the round peg for the round hole.

And of course, sticking it in.

Guess what's missing from Gerrard's cabinet, apart from the World Cup that he can win this year:

UEFA Champions League (1): 2004–05
UEFA Cup (1): 2000–01
UEFA Super Cup (2): 2001–02, 2005–06

Does anyone think that Gerrard would not be hungry for the Premier League title?

Does anyone think that he wouldn't want to put one over the scum?

Does anyone think he is going to achieve this with Liverpool?

Gerrard at the right price is an upgrade for nearly any team and to dismiss a player of his calibre for either footballing or business reasons is foolhardy in my book. Not that I agree with giving Liverpool 40 mil or us buying a near 30 year old player for a price anywhere near that, but someone like Gerrard, and a couple of players in key positions, would give us a real shot at the league.
