Well, I'd be surprised if Dzeko didn't want to come.

Hasn't he been linked to Milan in the past, and also went to them after we had bid to see if they could compete?

Manchester City to flex financial muscles by beating Liverpool to Athletic Bilbao's Javi Martinez

Manchester City are weighing up a deal for Athletic Bilbao midfielder Javi Martinez.

The highly-rated 21-year-old has been linked with Liverpool over recent years but City scouts have monitored him closely in recent months and have been putting together an extensive file documenting his background, habits and personality.

They also had scouts in the crowd in Austria on Saturday as he made his full Spain debut coming on as a substitute for Barcelona's Xavi against Saudi Arabia.

Martinez, who is rated at around £18million, is 6ft 3ins tall and plays in an attacking midfield position.

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez is a big fan but cannot compete financially with City who are working through a list of targets headed by Valencia's David Silva

It's well known he's a Milan fan, and wants to sign for them.

I have seen this link once before. Then I saw it the yesterday in a Spanish report saying that after Yaya had refused us we were turning our attention to Javi Martinez. But right at the end it quoted it's source as the News of the World.

Bit of a tenuous link, but one none-the-less. Had a look round this morning and he's being touted for many of the big clubs including Real, Barca, Chelsea and Liverpool, so must have something about him. Saying that, he is happy at Bilbao and because he's a young lad, I'd assume he wouldn't be wanting to move too far from his homeland at the moment.

The BILD is the equivalent of The Sun in the UK. So yea they are mostly full of shit.

However there are reports in the Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung (local paper from Wolfsburg) that Dzeko agreed to a deal with City... I find that hard to believe as well though.

So much of this stuff is agent speak. The signings we do make tend to take the press by surprise and long may it be so. Doing business with the Spanish clubs (and Italian for that matter) must be horrendous, because every time we (or anyone else) speaks to them the chiefs of Real, Barca and Valencia - and the rest for that matter - just put it straight in the public domain with their pet paper!

wolfsburg and city agree deal for DZEKO

Postby blue wine » Mon May 31, 2010 10:37 am

http://www.bild.de/BILD/sport/fussball/ ... -city.html

Angebliches Gehalt: 12,5 Mio Euro brutto pro Saison beim Tabellen-Fünften.

You itk or something? How do you know the money wasn't transfered already?

BILD is a shit tabloid, but their track record on football transfers is not so bad.

As for Milan, the article stated that the only offer came from City. They're probably waiting and hoping to negotiate the price.

Dzeko agreed on saturday and we will sign him today?

Personally he doesnt seem like our first choice to me, and i dont if hes worth that much money. If we are ''the only serious candidate'', then why do we need to offer 34 million? The player wants to come, no1 else is that arsed, so why dont we offer 15 million tomorrow at 9am?

34m is the amount in his contract (release clause). We had to offer it to even talk to the player I suppose.
I am not so sure if noone else is arsed... I am sure Milan, United, Chelsea would all like to have him.

Yeah but either way, united milan etc. dont have that much money to bid. So surely he'd be ours for around 20 million.

If offer the amount, talk to him, then pull out and bid less tomorrow. But that would piss Wolfsburg off and I suppose we could lose him to another team.

People are expecting an announcement today. It is bank holiday though so I doubt it.

I think you are misunderstanding how the release clause works.... if a club offers 34m and thus triggers the release clause, then the club cannot prevent the player from talking to another club and leaving if the amount in the clause is matched.

After midnight tonight that clause is no longer valid... now that does not mean the price will drop... it could actually rise if Wolfsburg want to keep Dzeko. And so far McClaren has clearly stated he would rather keep the player than get money for him, the report in the German newspaper actually suggested that they will force Dzeko to stay with them for another year if noone triggers the escape clause today.

We can offer the 40m Euros and enter direct negotiations with him, if he wants to enter them, without Wolfsburg being able to do a thing about it, until midnight.

After that, any team can offer however much they want (20p or £20 billion, doesn't matter), and it is up to Wolfsburg whether they accept, and then up to Dzeko as to whether he wants to enter talks.

Essentially, he doesn't have to come to us, and I doubt he will unless he wants to. I expect other teams to make a bid from tomorrow onwards, some of which he'll display an interest in, but it's up to Wolfsburg- based on whether or not they think the bidding team has matched their valuation- to allow him to enter negotiations. They're not exactly overly inclined to sell, so he almost definitely won't be anyone's for anything near the region of 20 million.

It expires on monday. People have been trying to fit that to their own agenda since it was first mentioned. I guess only the people who've seen the contract truly know when the exact deadline time is.
