Yaya Toure to sign today
Spanish daily newspaper El Mundo Deportivo claim Barcelona midfielder Yaya Toure is on the verge of completing his protracted move to Manchester City, and will undergo a medical in South Africa today. The Ivory Coast international has been linked with a host of Premier League clubs in the last 18-months, most notably Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal, but it appears Roberto Mancini has beaten his rivals Carlo Ancelotti, Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger by offering the La Liga giants £28 million.
Last January, the 27-year-old was strongly linked with a move to Manchester City and Chelsea, while recent speculation has suggested that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger would insist on the player being part of any deal Barca were planning for Cesc Fabregas. Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was also linked with the Ivorian, not least because of his concerns over the fitness prospects of perennial absentee Owen Hargreaves. Despite the strong interest in Toure, El Mundo Deportivo believe Toure will finalise his move to Manchester City later on today.
The report claims Manchester City have blown their rivals out of the water with a massive £28 million offer which would make Toure the most expensive defensive midfielder in the world. The newspaper intimates that City’s rivals Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United were not willing to go above £20 million.
Toure will reportedly undergo a medical at his base with the Ivory Coast in South Africa later today before finalising his personal terms with Manchester City’s representatives.
