Yaya is a defensive midfielder. Likely De Jong and or Barry's position then i would presume. If you were half watching the match the other night then you might have seen the fantastic ball over the top for Drogs goal? It came from the foot of Yaya Toure.

i can see playing him alongside Barry or De Jong, but clearly one of them would make way and my guess is it would be De Jong. It's a long season with loads of matches. There's room for all 3 for sure. Each has a little different personality to their game too, so that has some versatility regarding the position as well.

if we snag him i'd be pretty excited. He's at Barca for a reason (e.g. his talent level), but he's frustrated with playing maybe only 1/2 of their matches. And Pep prefers other players at his spot.

Related: Yaya did play at CB in a pinch due to numerous Barca injuries in the CL final against the Rags when Barca won the CL 2 seasons ago. Remember?

cheers

It's also worth saying Yaya is a world class center half, he's not a fan of playing there but i think its his best position imo.

In a nutshell, he's a better centre half than his brother and a better midfielder than Vieira and Barry.

Think Kompany but with better ball skills.

I would say de jong is for the bench and barry will drop deeper and occupy his position from the left - who knows though, we'll probably play him at right back knowing us

I would be thinking if Yaya signed, it would be him and Barry in the midfield. Defensive minded but can get forward when needed.

Think de Jong, but doesn't fall into a catatonic state when in possession.

I can see DeJong as a sitting player & Toure, dropping in next to him when we lose the ball but allowed to go forward when we're in posession. I could also se a 4-3-3 formation away from home with those two + Barry, 3 out & out forwards + 2 attacking fullbacks. Hard side to beat provided we still create at the other end. That formation would help protect Silva if he signs or even Robinho.

Also they can swap & change. Last season we had to play Barry at times when he was clearly goosed. This season, with so many games, we can rest players. Ireland & M Johson could also come into the reconing.

Re incoming players; I find it strange that we've never been linked with Jovetic from Roma. We were linked with him a few years ago & now he's about 20 yrs old, 6ft tall & all the talent in the world + the confidence to use it. Looks like a star in the making to me.

If we sign Silva, where does he play? Used to be an inside out right winger, so do we switch him to the left or is AJ gonna switch/be benched.

I am wondering if Robinho comes back AND we sign Silva how we can avoid playing 4-3-3 with 2 of Barry/Yaya/de Jong filling in the middle and Tevez given free roam behind Ade.

I think if, and its a big if, Silva and Milner arrive then SWP is gone and possibly Bellamy too.

That would be a terrific side ...... at home against Wolves. Away in the Prem League it would be suicidal.

fair point Slim and Goaters, I agree it would be a touch attack minded! However, you could slide Barry into LB or drop Toure Y into CB (in fact thinking about it, I'd bench Kolo and play Lescott which would allow greater flexibility) for when we play away. You'd then have the holding potential of De jong and Barry/Toure with the speed/trickery of the wing backs AJ and Silva with Tevez dropping back to help out??

I aapreciate that the above would probably be anathema to Mancio but it would be fun!

Im a big fan of fresh ideas dronny mate, but I have a gut feeling that Torres will be the sensational signing City are aiming for. And if that happens Mancini will adopt Chelsea's formation 4-1-2-1-2. Something along these lines, with plenty of attacking options on the bench

The flat earth brigade won't like that, I think you'd need another 5 to make them really happy :-)

Sensational would be an understatement if we did get Silva, Torres and Toure, then we'd really see Mancio earn his crust shuffling that pack....mouthwatering.

I just stumbled opon a piece which has quotes from Mancini calling Ibrahimovic the best striker in Europe. He also says we're interested in one of Krasic/Dzeko but not the other. Unless Mancini's on a wind up, then surely he'll be trying to sign the best, which according to him is Ibra. That would fulfil my prophecy of doom which puts Torres at Barca, Ibra at City & Mancini's future in the hands of an admittedly sometimes brilliant but often lazy, tempremental nutter. It also raises the grim possibility of another Christmas sacking if ibra turns out shit.

It's just not worth the gamble imo & I hope Mancini's just being kind with his comments.

Mancini's RSC. Hubris is a dish often best served in tiny, small amounts and not in six-foot-cunt-sized bites.

That being said, i shouldn't speak out of both sides of my mouth, because i do fancy Ibra. No, not that way. I mean i think he's fucking sexy, sure, but i mean to say that i think he's got the proverbial "bags" of talent. See what i did there? Anyway, i'd have him in a heartbeat. In fact, i'd have him at "hello."

That's quite alot of defensive midfielders on the books, then. De Jong, Barry, Vieira, Kompany, Zabaleta, Y Toure... Where's the competition for Ireland going to come from?
