We need two top class keepers, let them fight it out.

Joe can leave if he puts in a transfer request,City accept it and then a club offers us 15 OR OVER millions IMHO.

Spot on.

He doesn't like to fight for starting spot. Tough shit. Then he shits on bench until he feels up for it.

Anyway, if all goes according to plan we will play nearly 60 games next season. There will be plenty of chances for him as well.

That would be a very childish way to make his point!

if he has anything in common with nooly's cats he might shit in Shays boots as well

the male one - who is very protective of my missus in a feline sort of way - actually did shit in my shoe one time after me and the missus had an unusually nasty row.

He's a goalkeeper they don't really have an opportunity to fight for their place. There's a distinct pecking order with goalkeepers and to keep consistency it doesn't work like giving a GK 10 minutes at the end of some matches. It just doesn't happen. The reality for Joe is he'll be playing some cup games and doing nothing meaningful if he doesn't move. He can impress in training as much as he likes, unless Given picks up a serious injury he'll never get a shot at the first team.

I think a loan move to Sunderland would be just fine. Maybe he'll put up a clean sheet on the Rags or Chelsea for us.
One thing though, for the love of all things holy, put a damn disclaimer in the loan agreement that he comes back to us if Given gets hurt.

When people talk on this subject it all sounds 'either / or' - we need a squad and both players will get chances this season - we cannot be without a top back-up - it is clear that our aim is 2 of quality in all positions - why should we make any changes.

Re who should start as 'preferred No 1' - it is not even a difficult decision - except in the eyes of the media who have an agenda and the fans who lap that crap up - subject to fitness I am sure the decision has been made

Joe just needs to knuckle down as number 2 and earn his place through performances in that role. He was not better than Given before we signed Given and pre-season he has missed chance to impress - it is a no-brainer

The biggest casualty could be Joe's England career if Capello declines to select him if not number 1. That is sad but we cannot make major decisions based on such sentiment

Re losing him - why should we? To whom?

Yes I know that there would be a lot of clubs that would like to have him - but we just put him on £50k and a price tag of £25m - they cannot afford him - and we would / should not not sell to a rival - so that would not happen

Just get on with it Joe - 1 good year on loan at Birmingham does not equal > given - we want 2 top players for every position and we will rotate so he will get his chances to impress - just earn the no 1 spot rather than demand it through the media

I remember an American player doing it in South Korea / Japan in 2002, but I don't remember it being Beasley... In my memory it was a white dude ...
