I have never felt the need to come out as straight and make any sort of declaration on the subject and I feel I am in no way defined by my sexuality. Just because they have a different orientation they shouldn't feel the need to hide or show it or make any sort of grandiose statement on the subject.
I have less respect for people who "come out" as being gay as I feel they are making an issue and defining themselves on something that shouldn't matter and when they do, that is all they become.
I wouldn't normally see coming out as a narcissistic act. It can be low key, often it is, but it won't be possible for a prem player to do so. When it hits the mainstream media, it will be big news, at first. Sure, it would be great if people just took in the news and went back to talking about football, but it would still be a phase in having openly gay footballers.
I have a feeling that the next player to come out will be someone who's caught but decides to control the announcement. I don't expect someone to reveal a t-shirt after scoring, saying "Gay and proud."
