De Jong

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

The masocistic "nazi" that I am, I went through the pain of watching the game again last night following De Jong in "Zidane:Potrait of a footballer" fashion. He was indeed better in the first half than I remembered BUT absolute dog shit in the second half.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

And the award this year for city scapegoat/boo boy goes too........Nigel De Jong

Fuck me some things never change do they. Now Dunne and Vas have gone I guess some of you need to vent your negative vibes somewhere.

Last time I looked it was a team game and as a collective we were poor in the 2nd half, end of. Do some forget that this is a new team gelling, who just got beat by one of the best teams in Europe. We are going to have blips along the way.

There were loads of positves to take out of the game and I for one can't wait for Wednesday where we dust ourselves down and go again.

Do not know how people can watch a game so differently – and IMO – some comments made on here clearly demonstrate that perhaps some people on here do not know as much about football as they would like to think that they do – isolated snippets are used to try and build a case.

IMO (which must be quite robust given some of the silly comments on this site since the match)

1. 1st goal was mostly about SWP – if de jong had made that tackle he would have been heroic

2. 2nd and 3rd goals were much more about how we defend aerial balls into the box – I had thought that with Toure and Lescott – with Barry we would be much better – 4th goal was about the header out but more importantly we should not be still playing

3. De jong was one of our better players today

4. Richards showed (yet again) that when he has a good game occasionally that seems to go to his head and he switches off until the next time his position is threatened – he was utter shite today

5. The quality of some of the Man CITY fans on this site is demonstrated by some of the themes / posts seen since the match – we have won 4 on the bounce – we went into this game with some key players missing against a full strength Scum side and would have drawn without more ref cheating – we showed a level of team character to come back 3 times from being down – the old CITY would not have done that!!! And then when you expect to read a bunch of threads / posts showing how we stick together and get behind the lads – well you get either shot thread like this one or threads that seek to get behind the club dragged down by the CITY fans who cannot seem to get behind the club

I for one am proud of what our club is doing and the attitude of the ‘New CITY’ – I am less proud of the shallowness of some of the CITY fans

Indeed.

I had Rags sitting next to me at the bar today (Intelligent ones, mind you- one had a ticket to be in our end, but came out to Belgium to see his cousin), and for the first goal, we all saw that we missed Dunne. 2nd & 3rd, it was Ade missing.

Correct Ade was a maasive loss at set pieces and the quicker he is back the better. He won everything in the air last week from set plays.

In what way? I've got no doubt that the defence today was a better lineup than one including Dunne, but he would have prevented that goal (albeit maybe conceding 4 others).

Don't know what game you were watching Antti but De Jong had a great game...I thought so and apparently so did the Manchester Evening News who gave him an 8 in the player ratings

Go watch the second half again mate. I really mean it. You'll know what I'm on about.

Edit just seen MEN ratings. They said following of Lescott: Tremendous aerial battle with Berbatov, and he could claim honours were even . Would that be the Dimitar Berbatov who pulled three top saves out of Given with headers?

How can you possibly say another player, especially Dunne, would have prevented a goal? Semantics mate. If we had Valdes in goal maybe he would have saved all four of their goals as well.

I think you're right in the fact that he disappeared a little in the second half...though the first half he was immense

For fucks sake leave it, De Jong was one of our better players, yes he got bi-passed 2nd half, however Toure,Lescott, Richards were what statues at best , take Given out it would have been double figures, We saw one of the best games ever between 2 clubs from this City, we almost stole a draw without 3 or 4 players being on the pitch, you have your point a view ,sure you lack one major thing in your football world mate BANTER and genuine football craic, Slagging anyone after that game within minutes is just Wrong, great game great day shame about the result.

Absolutely pathetic the way some people on here cannot stop slagging off De Jong, funny to see that this is always coming from the same posters as well.

de Jong had a tough job. He did reasonably well for a while and ended up helping out our fullbacks a lot.

When we were under pressure in the 2nd half we needed an outlet. With Adebayor gone the long ball lost effectiveness, we needed de Jong to be available for the short pass and allow us to build possession. He wasn't the only one to be blamed, but we did end up making a lot of difficulty for ourselves. SWP gave the ball away a few times immediately after we won the ball after sustained periods without the ball.

If we're going to start a thread on De Jong and get on his back, why not start one on the beloved Ireland? He’s been gash since the Blackburn game! Maybe it's time to stop talking a lot to the press and actually play football?

Nigel De Jong and Gareth Barry were pure class at the heart of midfield,

From the Oliver Holt article (and lets face it that paper does not try to be positive about us) - another one watching a different game ???
