Mancini (The Ted Hughes and BBS thread)

I felt physically sick when they scored; saw it happening as soon as Kolo hoofed it.
But now when I've calmed down a bit, all though royally pissed off that we lost two points, I'm happy with the way we played in the second half. My only gripe is that we don't have enough people in the penalty area when attacking. I also thought it was painfully clear that Milner isn't half the footballer Yaya is. If you could just combine Milner's stamina, grit and work load with Yaya's football brain and technique ...

Happy birthday Roberto!
You will have to wait until Mark's birthdate for some celebration, though...

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Roberto Mancini (born 27 November 1964) is an Italian football manager, formerly an international player and current manager of English Premier League team Manchester City.................

that's what we need - first half like Fulham, second half like today and Kolo subbed in the 90th minute!

Four points earned away from home in two games is title winning . We just need to win all our games at home too !

He made too many changes to start with & it cocked up the rhthm of the team but he changed it to the Fulham formation for a while & it settled us down. Definitely came out better after his team talk & baring in mind the rugby team & the slippery pitch, it was a great 2nd half til the end. By the end we could have done almost anything & it was all clicking nicely as far as passing goes. Until someone kicked it to Stoke for no reason.

The main thing was, we were positive, getting players forward all the time & playing to win throughout. That's all I ask for.

anyone with a web browser and an internet connection can figure out that migrane sufferers can sometimes be debilitated for a day or more from a migrane.

Also, his brother's fuclin hoofing antics cost us points. FACT.

Not a great days for the Brothers Toure in my book. And, back on topic, not a great day for Mancini. As SOON as Richards scores that goal Mancini should have sat young AJ back down and told Milner to fuclin shut up shop. End of Story.

Sorry if that's too simple or harsh for the "glad we got a point away at Stoke" crew, but for me today was a huge lift from that second half performance, followed by a huge letdown from a serious lack of concentration that will not only not win us the title but could cost us CL spot.

Imagine those 4 additional points we really should have earned home vs Blackburn and now away at Stoke? We're barely scraping 4th and should be comfy in 2nd with a big swinging johnson in between our legs.

Upside: This team has shown that we have the talent, i believe, to win the league this season. Finally. Let's put a nice run together and see what's what....loved to see our attacking nature in the 2nd half. That's what we need to see more of...but Mancini's inability to sense when he needed to shut up shop vs. those cloggers was imho stubborn and silly.

Post of the week for me.

Like I said in the pay bracket thread, how so many undervalue YaYa is beyond me. He is clearly an intelligent footballer who has strangth and speed without using it to headless chicken affect.

Milner has been gash ever since he swapped shirts in my humble opinion. He and Jerome have been major let downs thus far.

Milner hasn't hit his stride yet, but clearing one off the line like he did was pretty monumental today. Also, if he stayed in the match instead of being subbed for AJ i believe we'd have had 3 pts and not 1.

I sincerely doubt Milner would have been at CB when they hit it long, Kolo had a brain freeze the midfield dint lose us the game.

You and i won't argue about Kolo's lumping it upfield...but i don't believe we'd have been in that position for some reason if Mancini hadn't substituted Milner. yes, Kolo could have literally stood on the ball instead of booting it upfield but i think had Mancini not substituted him and instead told Milner to shut up shop he would have been in or around the box for the goal kick back upfield and might have made a difference.

Regardless, Milner hasn't hit his stride yet but i really like his attitude and his potential. I'll be patient with him because i think he has a great demeanor and a lot of skill. it will happen for him.

You could be right but Bob's thinking may have been that either Milner was carrying an injury, or that he wanted to make an effort to keep the team attitude positive & not fall back & go into the kind of cowardly desperate hoofing mode that we saw from Kolo.

yeah yknow i do feel like the lunacy of me being angry that Bob didn't call for shutting up shop vs. the rubgy side we faced today is hypocritical but realistically that's what the manager SHOULD have called for imho. Preserving a precious 3 pts away at Stoke was HUGE. Just huge. And he made two attacking substitutions -- tho to be fair Jo happened just after they scored, point being it was planned when we were still up 1-0 -- which contradicts everything i'd have been looking for him to do.

crazy talk i know...but it's just how i felt watching it.

It was surprising certainly, I commented on it at the time. Very unboblike. If we'd gone into our shell & they'd scored from a throw in after building pressure we'd probably all be moaning that he was too negative though. I was really impressed with us today for the simple reason that we were so shit & yet turned it round. Gutted by the crappy finish though. If we follow it up with a couple of wins, it'll look like a good point in the end.

that's the key...this result cannot be judged until really the end of December. If we press on and prove that we can take the first half vs Fulham and second half vs. Stoke and stitch it into 90 mins of footy then we really won't have anything to worry about. However, if we proceed to fuck up left and right and make heavy weather out of the Europa matches then this will be seen in a much more negative light.

regardless, i spent yesterday feeling like shit after the match like someone had stolen my wallet or wrecked into my car.

I loved Mancini's attitude after we scored. I was afraid we were gonna sit back, but when we started our possession game, I was really enjoying it. We looked world class, and it was the best possible way of defending a lead for 15 minutes against the likes of Stoke. Too bad we fucked it up in the last minute, but the method he chose was the right one nevertheless.

i hope it was a decision borne of confidence and not pressure if you know what i mean. I feel like it's the former because Bobby doesn't seem to give a fucl what you or I or the media think of his management approach, but...it just FELT like the wrong decision given the nature of the match at that point. for me it felt like the absolute right approach, and I think it was taken out of confidence. Bobby should have a lot of that against lesser teams after last weeks display.
