I've tried to let my emotions calm before commenting on Carlos.

It's hard to a imagine a scenario where Tevez was not complicit on some level to the statements which have been made on his behalf in the last few days. For me, it stands to reason then that again, on some level, he wants out of City sooner rather than later. To be quite honest, it's not really a surprise given the public proclamations he's made in recent weeks/months about being unhappy.

The story with his family issues, as told to me (and also reported quite widely in the press) is that he left his long term partner and mother of his children for a 19 year old beauty contestant a few years back. This caused his family to initially move back to Argentina. Since then, he's basically been put in a position where neither his current girlfriend, nor the mother of his children, have any interest in moving to Manchester. Although a complicated situation, as Carlos said himself in the interview on the OS (which again, from my understanding was NOT forced upon him, but something he chose to do) footballers understand that their career in short and he can make up for 'family time' once they've retired as multi, multi, millionaires.

This is probably where Kia's influence comes into the picture. As others have said, the only way for Kia to earn big from the player is if the player gets another transfer. So it's not hard to imagine a situation where Kia advises Carlos that for his own happiness he should seek a transfer to a country where both the mother of his children, and his current girlfriend are prepared to move. I

So why mid season and why such a dramatic fall out? As others have said, this can be traced back to Hughes' sacking. As much as we as supporters didn't take to MH, it was Kia (as his agent) who brought him to MCFC, and also the man who brought Carlos to MCFC. When Hughes was sacked, Tevez was one of the core of players who was seriously effected by this. I'd say this was as much about Mancini being a less 'loving' manager towards his players than Hughes was, as it was simply about Hughes getting the chop. Whichever way you look at it, there was no love lost between the Tevez/Kia camp and MCFC from that point onwards. (Anyone remember the interview at the end of last season with Mancini in which he clearly stated "if Carlos wants to leave he should leave" - although the quote in context wasn't so bad - taken out of context it sounds like a manager who doesn't give a f@ck about any players perceived importance to the team).

Whatever the catalyst was for the situation we're in, my point of view is that it was always going to happen at some point, and as much as it pains some of us to accept it, this is a situation as much of our own making as it is anything else. Garry Cook and co were the ones were originally let the likes of Kia have the free run of COMS. It was those same executives who used these agents to sign a raft of players on big fat long term contracts without doing their due diligence on whether these players were 'right' for City long term. Those executives need to now accept that they maybe made some poor decisions (possibly at the behest of MH, although it's hard to imagine Cook, Marwood, and Khaldoon not having some say, even in the players he was bringing in), and are paying the price for those decisions in constant state of upheaval we find ourselves in, in the midst of such an important season.

For what it's worth, I think the big losers in all of this will be Carlos/Kia. You can fuck with the likes of Cook and Marwood and the worst that will happen is you get a bunch of cockney fickle journalists turning on you - but when you start fucking with Khaldoon and Sheikh Mansour on a business level as Carlos/Kia currently are, then expect to get handed a lesson in ruthlessness not seen before in the modern game of football.

The suggestion in the press is that Joorabchian was involved in appointing Cook.

You're right mate as I'm pretty sure he had a lot to do with all Sven's signing's, like a super-agent if you will. It was Thaksin who started him down this line and I'm sure he had influence prior to that.

Good post Goose, but as far as blaming Cook at al goes, I'm not too sure. The truth is we've actually needed people like Kia to do our dirty work and get players like Carlos in, the problem came when we wanted to stop him dipping his bread in our gravy and cut him away from us - which is only right and proper, he ain't part of the club, just an outside agency working for us.

As I understood it both 'super' agents Joeragshitead & Penissy Harvey were both well into City before Cook arrived.

Ted,
Thanks for that mate. Coupled with the other statements that are now coming out in the media from both camps, it seems that you could well be right.
I still remain amazed that Tevez has allowed himself to be moved around by Joorabchian in such a way. Maybe, even as an old cynic, I was too naive to think that Tevez, as thick as he might appear, was not that stupid. It seems I may have been wrong.
I can't see many gains for Tevez in any of this. Apart from the huge signing on fee (surely he has enough money), he is unlikely to get the plaudits and love in Madrid that he gets here and, for the life of me, I cannot see Mourinho giving him the social break time and freedoms he has had here.
Altogether, a very poor move for his day to day life experience.

For Joorabchian, I think it completely closes the door on him at Eastlands and probably serves as a warning to other clubs, who learning from us, are likely to do the same. They may get the money this time, but having won a small battle here, they could well lose the war.
One thing for certain, City will continue to evolve and grow. Getting this out of the way now, may be a big blessing in diguise.

May I ask why you say that? Do you have some reason or evidence to support your assertion that KJ did not influence the recruitment of Garry Cook by Shinawatra in 2008?

The agents were drafted in at Sven's behest originally to help him bring in a raft of players quickly. Kia got his claws into Thaksin, and later Cook, by dangling carrots like Ronaldinho in front of them at a time when it was an outlandish thought that a player like that would move to City.

Cook's experience during that particularly bitter wrangle (the Kia/Ronaldinho/Sven one) should have been warning enough that this type of agent should play zero part in any transfer we get involved in. What happened is that Cook didn't heed the warning, and continued to allow Kia to essentially swan around the transfer world acting as City's mouthpiece right up until Carlos pitched up at COMS in the summer of 2009. It's only been since then that Kia's slowly become persona non grata. That' why I sort of think Cook has to carry some of the blame for this situation.

As an aside, does anybody of a copy of the story from today's Times about Cook/Kia/Tevez? I don't pay Murdoch to read his papers online and don't live in the UK so can't just nip down the newsagents and buy a hard copy.

City cannot be stopped, just slowed a little here & there.

The thing is; if Tevez was genuinely so deperate to get out of City that he desperately needed to put in a transfer request at this hellishly disruptive time, rather than just wait for the summer, then once it becomes clear that he can't leave, surely he must retire? If he doesn't get a move in Jan & yet still he doesn't walk out & go back to Argentina, imo, he's full of shit. I'll be glad when he's gone, either way.

Quality post, Goose. Though I don't lay any blame with our execs. I believe Marwood will prove to be one of the shrewdest signings the club has made since the takeover.

I hope and pray that this is correct............

If that's the case then it would suggest Cook was just using Jobbygobshite to lure Tevez to City, so would have to share some of the responsibility.

As I said, my understanding is that at that time Dr Shinawatra was looking to replace Ali Mac with someone who actually had a vision for how to get City to progress. Keith Harris was the guy who Thaksin's people turned to when they were restructuring the City boardroom, and he was the one who recommended Cook and also Paul Aldridge.

I think that reflect what goes on in any office/factory setting. You meet someone at work who you get on with and does a good job. He leaves and you miss him. A new guy comes in and after a short time, you get on with him and life continues.

Happens all over the place every day.
