Yes we are not in Schengen and yes he does need a visa but the point is that he did enter the UK because he passed his medical so he must have had a visa. I suppose the border agency might have allowed him through just for a day and then told him to go back to Germany to apply properly at the UK Embassy at Bonn but that seems rather unlikely. If there is a screw up on the visa I would blame the club; they really should make sure these things are sorted out. They should know about UK requirements not a Bosnian player and his entourage.

The two most likely explanations for the delay are the following:

First, there is still some haggling about the details of personal terms. If so it seems silly to have gone through the medical but it's possible.

Second he hasn't yet got his work permit; an entirely separate question from a visa. Since he is a Bosnia team regular and Bosnia are 44th in the FIFA rankings ( well above the 70th requirement) it ought to be a formality but the paperwork might take a day or two. In any event I think it's almost certainly too late for the FA Cup. He should be done and dusted well before Monday's training ( for those players who don't play at Leicester).

3rd possiblity is.. there is no problems, he had a visa, finished the medical, signed the deal and only the little details being finished up with an grand unveiling tomorrow.

I quite honestly can imagine him sitting in front of a camera doing the offical website interview as i type.

An announcement today is possible but I doubt it. Sky Sports would have got a sniff of it by now. Mancini has a Press Conference tomorrow for the FA Cup and he'll have to answer questions about it so the Club will be very keen to sort things out over the next 24 hours.

By the way I should have said UK consulate in Bonn; the Embassy's in Berlin of course. Consulates do issue visas, however. Still I'm doubtful a visa is the issue. I think it's far more likely the work permit is causing the delay and he's back in Germany sorting himself out before he comes to Manchester.

How do we know the medical was carried out within the UK? It could have been carried out at the airport, before passport control- there must be medical facilities/treatment room there-, or even abroad or on the Sheikh's Jet (unless I've missed something).

He shouldn't have problems getting a work permit for the reasons you've stated, plus I'm pretty sure that playing in Germany negates the need for one (the reason lots of Prem teams have feeder clubs in other EU countries).

SkySports were reporting before last night's match that it had taken place in London.

Don't be ridiculous. A full blown medical involves an MRI scan among other things. Heathrow Airport is not equipped for this sort of thing. If a medical took place- and we're led to believe that it has- then it took place at a private clinic.

Suppose so. I was thinking more along the lines of a 'typical city' medical. However, I doubt the UK Border Agency makes 'exceptions' for this sort of thing, especially these days, so I guess that would take us back to the question of whether he had a visa or not...

However, the 24-year-old finally reached Manchester last night while his prospective new team-mates were playing at Arsenal in the Barclays Premier League and underwent initial medical examinations last night.

Actually it takes us back to whether he's had a medical or not. If he's had a medical in London then he must have had a visa to secure entry in which case why didn't he fly up to Manchester and sign today? As I said upthread I suspect the hitch concerns the work permit. He cant really sign until he's got one so why not let him go back to Germany to sort out a few things? There remains the possibility that terms haven't been sorted out in which case the club was foolish to get a medical done prematurely. One other possibility that occurs to me is that the results of the medical weren't entirely satisfactory and the Club is mulling the situation. If he had flu were his breathing measurements satisfactory for instance? I know that the RSC medical is good for a laugh but I think the Club is run on a much more professional basis these days. I'm sure they would want a good look at Dzeko's physical state including crucially a thorough scan of his legs in order to satisfy the insurers.

Personally I think the club are foolish to go into lockdown mode at times like this. Better to let the Press Office brief one or two trusted journalists off the record otherwise speculation starts to run riot. This must be Gary Cooke's modus operandi. If there's a real problem with this deal, which I very much doubt, then the Press will sniff it out rapidly anyway.

The attachment below suggests that you have to go to Dusseldorf to get a UK visa. There isn't even a consulate in Bonn apparently.

I thought you had to be registered with the club for a week or two?

I think we are just waitng for his work permit, everything else sorted.

Fuck me look at the scenarios you created. Can't we just wait and see?
Next someone will say he ran after someone who mugged and old lady's handbag in heathrow, chased him to the plane, doors got shut, and got trapped in that plane which was heading back to Germany.

Didn't Bosnia just become member of Schengen countries yesterday? So I think I read from the papers. BiB can maybe confirm this. He wouldn't need visa anymore. He'd need work permit though but I think he would automatically qualify anyway.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

If your asking BiB a geography question Antti, you may have to wait for an answer. Having found out where the Townley is, bought a new sat nav to locate Heathrow in london...he may have gone for a lie down.
