was very very good last night. Doesn't change the original point of this topic that he was absolute dogturd in second half of Derby.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Slim, why do you feel the need to defend yourself? You have stated many times that your assessment was based on one match. Yet when someone has a go at the haters you bite every time. It doesn't make sense mate.

yup, Hughes always asks his five footers to mark six-and-a-half-foot centre forwards at set pieces. I think he needs to change this

Well one person was addressing me directly so I replied. But mostly it's because the "I told you so" crowd on here are a problem that needs someone to tell them to knock it the fuck off.

Haha you horrible cunt you were wrong again haha!!!

Seriously though, Dazby's right - you only had a issue with him for one game as far as I can remember. Its the usual three that refuse to let it lie, so much so that they actually either get annoyed or disappear when he has ANOTHER very good performance... you should leave it up to one of them to defend this stance so strongly... although NQDP is the only one who actually addresses the situation when its put to him... we all know the other two are here only to wind people up anyway..

Its a bit sad.... or as Kevin Bishop's toffs would say

"Its just a little bit annoying"

And it is for that reason I pointed out the latest rave reviews - the pathetic effort (Slim's words) were the criticisms against all logic - he was one of our better players in the derby and when he had a bad 2nd half - he was clearly not alone - otherwise he has been spot on

Some of the attempts to criticise are actually quite silly - watching replays of goals scored against us just in case he was within 10 yards - in which case claim it was his fault - totally ignoring who should have been marking - now that is a pathetic effort

But, he's right. If you watch the goal again it's clear that we didn't have someone covering the space for a knockdown. Once the ball came into that area there was a lot of time for a shot with no one able to clear the danger.

de Jong would be the natural person to be in that space. I can't really comment further because maybe it was, in fact, someone else's job and the problem lay elsewhere (player and/or coach).

Whatever about the debate over him, it's churlish to disallow critical analysis of the game (backed using video evidence instead of hazy drunken recollection*) on the basis that we'd be bringing facts into an argument about who the strongest players on the team are.

If it was his mistake it doesn't necessarily invalidate assertions that he played well.

*in general. I'm not disputing your recollection of the game.

And I am not disputing the facts of that particular incident - similar comments were made to criticise de jong over the rooney goal - simply because he was putting the effort in to get across and try to put in a blocking tackle - while others (whose job it was) were asleep and not making effort

What I find to be churlish is the jumping on an incident to support an argument that a player is poor when you could bring out loads of clips already this season of that player doing outstanding things

BTW my comments on this goal were not really aimed at Slim (well not solely) - I used Slim's quote from where he referred to me bringing the subject up again as a pathetic effort - just would be good to see some of the same old faces (and in this case I most certainly do not mean Slim) come out and say things like - actually I think I may have been hasty / wrong when I said......

This is starting to get all bit silly now. This topic was posted few minutes after the final whistle of Derby. I was angered by his performance in that game, and still am. However some are indicating I'm having some sort of hate campaign against him, when I believe this is the only time I have been critical of him.

I will always be angered by players who don't turn up for full 90 minutes of Derby. I don't think that will ever change.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Really?

I'm still fucking pissed off about our derby loss and De Jong's performance on that game.

Great to hear that derby loss makes you giggle.
