***Official FA Cup - Leicester v City Match Thread***

4 hours to go and no Match Thread - scandalous!

And let's not forget todays fitting tribute to Neil Young. A Fallowfield born City apprentice who stayed and played with us for over 10 years even though he was offered a contract at United. The link today is the '69 FA Cup final where we beat Leicester 1-0, where Neil played in every round and scored the winner to take the Cup back home to Maine Road.

Image
Neil has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and you'll see any of our off the pitch members wearing Red and Black, and I'd suggest most of our crowd will have Red and Black scarfs, with all proceeds goinf to charity. My thoughts go out to him and his family.

Now, back to the game. Here's the Match Facts from the Beeb:

BIG-MATCH FACTS

The tie in context

• Leicester are one of 12 Championship clubs paired with Premier League opposition in the third round.

• Manchester City are 30 places higher than Leicester in the league standings.

Head-to-head

• Manchester City are looking to beat Leicester for the 50th time in a competitive match.

• They are meeting for the first time in seven years, since both clubs were in the Premier League in 2003/04.

FA Cup records and best performances
• This is the 10th time they have been paired together in the FA Cup.

• Manchester City have progressed on seven occasions; Leicester on two.

• The Premier League club have not lost an FA Cup tie to the Foxes since 1968, when Leicester prevailed in a fourth round replay by the odd goal in seven.

• Their most important meeting was in 1969, when Neil Young scored the only goal of a drab final to give the silverware to a Joe Mercer and Malcolm Allison inspired City. Leicester became only the second club to reach the FA Cup final and suffer relegation in the same season.

LEICESTER CITY

Current form

• Sven-Goran Eriksson faces the club he managed in the 2007/08 season.

• The Foxes have a 100% record in 2011; won two of two.

• They have not lost in seven league and cup games at the Walkers Stadium; they have won five and drawn two since West Brom beat them 4-1 in the fourth round of the Carling Cup on 26 October.

FA Cup form

• Last season was the first time in four years they successfully negotiated the third round.

• Tottenham is the last Premier League club they ousted, courtesy of a 3-2 home win in the third round in January 2006.

• The Foxes are the only club to have lost four FA Cup finals.

MANCHESTER CITY

Current form

• Manager Roberto Mancini once played under Sven-Goran Eriksson at Lazio.

• The Citizens are undefeated in four (W3, D1).

• Not lost in seven on the road; winning four and drawing three since a 3-1 loss to Lech Poznan in the Europa League on 4 November.

FA Cup form

• Won the competition for the fourth time in 1969, when they beat Leicester in the final.

• Knocked out in the third round in one of the last five years.

• Nottingham Forest were the last Championship club to knock them out, when they were defeated 3-0 at Eastlands at this same stage in January 2009.

Since we beat them in 1969 we have been paired with them 3 times in the FA Cup, always in the 1st round proper and City have progressed every time (twice on replay)

I don't get this to add up Beefy?
Apart from that, great little preview!

Mate, sometimes I throw a curve-ball to see if anyone actually reads it - you've proved that you do. Note the edit after there were 10 views ;-)

No wonder us City fans are paranoid, when we're even out to get each other ;-)

Nah mate, I just sometimes wonder if it's worth sticking the detail in or just shout 'COME ON CITY'. Seems there's no preview either so thought I'd put something up about the game.

Is that like the official unofficial Black and White kit? I reckon the answer would be 'No'.

3rd kit I reckon, but I'm sure you knew that.

In the Dzeko's first day video, they were getting the 3rd kit ready. So I think so.

They will fly at us from the beginning, but I think we will be too cunning for them and will probably get an early goal on the sly. It could be a dog of a game, but when we show our foxy skills, we should brush the aside.

3-1 for City

I hope it's a strong side today , get hold of the game early, a couple of goals ahead so that 2 or 3 players can be rested and young guns given some experience.
