You don't think we signed a serbian for that very reason already?

I do not care why we signed Dzeko, Tores is a better player, endof, in a blue shirt will be less heart break allround,Chelsea would be a major force we could prevent by outbidding them, Teves leaves we face having to replace why not buy Torres and Tevez looks after itself.

Its all about opinions - I personally think that Dzeko will prove to be a better player than Torres - Torres is a little bit faster but edin is much better in the air - I would think that the only reason CITY would even remotely consider signing Torres is if there has been a 'behind the scenes' agreement that Tevez will leave in the summer - if that is not the case there is no place for him

Benfica saying that negotiations ended with Chelsea on Luiz. No deal.

Could be why Chelsea suddenly switched to Torres.

Admittedly, Kolarov is renowned for his shooting but has only managed to find the net once so far.

I do think the Bosnian Dzeko might knock in a few though.

Oh yeah, although it would be fun to see Kolarov playing up front.

I agree, but we have signed Dzeko and there is just something that struck me as odd about the signing and I have the sneaking suspicion that he has been brought in now to replace Tevez in the summer.

Dzeko was all about timing in my opinion. They wanted too much in the summer whilst they were in the CL. They were then out of the CL with an uphill struggle to make next years comp, allowing us to move for a player who clearly wanted to come in the first place.

Do you know what Wooders, I've just checked and you're absolutely right. I've been living with that misconception for a while now and don't know why?

Cheers pal, that's given my head a slap. Seems that talking shit is a long standing thing with me ;-)

Manager Roberto Mancini is keen to reinforce an increasingly vulnerable rearguard that has conceded eight goals in four games.

Goal.com UK understands that City are closely monitoring the situations of long-term targets Luiz and Van der Wiel.

“Mancini isn’t finished this month,” a City source told Goal.com UK. “City have been watching Luiz for a year and have remained in regular contact with his representatives. They are also interested in Van der Wiel and are considering a last-minute deal.”

A City delegation led by chief scout Mike Rigg watched Van der Wiel during Ajax’s 2-0 friendly win over Feyenoord last week.

The fixed price of £17 million written into his contract, which runs until 2013, is not prohibitive for the club’s Abu Dhabi owners although City no longer want to be regarded as pushovers in transfer deals.

Mancini wants to either recruit a blue-chip centre-back like Luiz, whose move to Chelsea is on the verge of collapse because of the structure of the deal, or bring in Van der Wiel at right-back and re-position Jerome Boateng in to the centre of defence.

Benfica coach Jorge Jesus has admitted that Chelsea, who have been locked in talks with the Portugese club about the structure of payments of a £25.5m deal for Luiz, are not the only club pursuing the centre-half.

"There are several clubs interested, but still nothing on the table," he has said.

City are willing to listen to offers for Micah Richards but have put a £15m price-tag on the England international, whose former club Oldham will receive 20 per cent of any potential transfer after he switched academies as a teenager.

Any potential moves for Luiz or Van der Wiel might have to be postponed until the summer although the City hierarchy have twice assured captain Carlos Tevez during sit-down talks that they intend to bolster their defensive ranks this month.

“They told Tevez at the end of last summer when he wanted to leave that their top targets in the next window were [Edin] Dzeko and Luiz,” added a second source.

“They also mentioned the same two players in December when they persuaded him to stay and withdraw his transfer request.”

Dunno how much truth in that...

They are foolish to bid that much, Newcastle are foolish not to accept.

Ridiculous from all sides if the bid was genuine.

The quote that 23 million in the current climate is 'paltry' might have come from anywhere, but come on, the guy's scored 11 goals in the league. 11, not 111.

Would Ricketts or Phillips have been worth that much if they'd had their seasons this year? Lunacy.

Wonder if Shaun regrets listening to his step-dad and rejecting that offer - obviously was not an 'insult' - he is not getting offered as much for as long by anyone else
