Monday's B*ll*x

Postby Chinners » Mon Feb 28, 2011 7:41 am

Fulham manager Mark Hughes apologised for his spat with Manchester City counterpart Roberto Mancini after the two sides' 1-1 Premier League draw.
Hughes angrily withdrew his handshake after Mancini failed to meet his glance when they came together at full-time.
"I apologise if I offended anyone," said Hughes, who was sacked at City and replaced by Mancini in December 2009.
"Maybe I'm old-fashioned but I didn't think he offered his hand with any sincerity today."
Hughes, who also sent some stern words in Mancini's direction, added: "I was well beaten 4-1 by City and Roberto in the reverse fixture at our place and I offered him my hand and admitted they were the better side."
We're not happy with the draw, it's another two points lost
Mancini, who saw his side's already slim title hopes suffer another major setback, said he did not know what the problem was.
"I don't know, I don't know what he said," the Italian revealed. "I shook hands with him, but I don't understand what he was saying. There's no problem as far as I'm concerned."
City took the lead in the first half at Eastlands through Mario Balotelli's fine right-foot strike, only for Fulham to level soon after the restart when Damien Duff met Andrew Johnson's right-wing cross to equalise.
Hughes lavished praise on his side but admitted he was frustrated to be leaving his former club with only a point after an impressive performance.
"In the first half we were in control of the game and conceded against the run of play and it's difficult when you go behind against such a good team," the Welshman added.
"But we've got character and desire in abundance and we showed that in the second half. In fact we're a little disappointed because I thought we could have won it.
"We have been away at some of the hardest places to go to this season and haven't got our rewards and that was in the back of our minds. We feared that today, but weren't prepared to allow that to happen.
"City are playing every three days at the moment but they've got the resources to cope with that because they are a top club and they've got to get used to that.
"They looked like they were struggling at times to keep tabs on us and the desire of my team helped with that."
Mancini admitted it was a difficult afternoon for City, who now lie 10 points behind league leaders Manchester United, having played a game more than their rivals.
"We're not happy with the draw, it's another two points lost," the Italian reflected. "It's normal to have some tiredness when you play every three days, but it's difficult with four or five players missing.
"We played with three strikers today [Balotelli, Edin Dzeko and Carlos Tevez] but it didn't work well. You have to play well with the rest of the team and move well, but it just didn't work.
"In this moment we need all our players available. Every three days, every three days, it's very hard.
"But our mentality must be different if we want to improve in this way. Every game we want to play at 100%, but it does make it difficult when we can't change four or five players every game."

Mancini warning to Mario
City boss not happy with striker
Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has revealed his unhappiness with striker Mario Balotelli following their 1-1 draw with Fulham.
City took an early lead at Eastlands, with Balotelli firing home a smart finish, but Fulham fought back and claimed an equaliser through Damien Duff.
Mancini's men could not find the winner and Mancini was quick to reveal that Balotelli was not up to standard.
"I am not happy with Mario," said the City boss.
"I know him very well and I know he can play better. He can play for the team.
"He scored a fantastic goal, but there were still 70 minutes left.
"He can't lose the ball all the time. Every time the ball went to the front, we didn't keep it."

Hey Chinners, my mate has decided he doesn't believe you exist. He certainly doesn't believe your party exists.

I think you should change your username to Santa.

Your "mate" would be right on both accounts. Any similarity of either myself or said party this Thursday in Barnsley is purely coincidental ...

Mancini troubled by Johnson absence
Manchester City are struggling to cope with the absence of Adam Johnson
Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini is starting to discover the cost of Adam Johnson's ankle injury.
Johnson hurt himself in training at the end of January, giving manager Roberto Mancini barely any time to find a replacement.
Mancini said: "After Adam Johnson got injured we had a big problem because he is different to the other players. We don't have anyone else like that but he won't be back for another month."
He added: "We are so tired and fatigue is a factor.
"At the moment, we need all the players available because one match every three days, week after week, is very hard.
"But I can't keep the players fresh because we only have 14 players.
"We can't practice. It is not possible to train.
"We prepare for matches but we only have 48 hours to recover. It is a big problem."

Kevin Keegan rules Manchester City out of running for Premier League title
It’s a ‘two-horse race’ between Manchester United & Former Manchester City boss Kevin Keegan believes that the Premier League is now a 'two-horse race' between Manchester United and Arsenal after City's 1-1 draw with Fulham on Sunday.
That result, coupled with United's 4-0 win over Wigan on Saturday, means that Roberto Mancini's side are 10 points behind their local rivals, and six behind Arsenal, having played one match more.
"We are definitely into a two-horse race now," Keegan told BBC Radio 5 Live.
"The points they [Manchester City] have dropped and the games they have dropped them in. They just let themselves down."
A top-four finish is crucial for Manchester City in order to ensure qualification for next season's lucrative Champions League, and in turn keep the club progressing.
However, having lost at Aston Villa and drawn with Birmingham in the last four weeks, Keegan says that the side, despite containing the likes of Carlos Tevez, Yaya Toure and David Silva, aren't ready for a title bid.
"You look at the fixtures and you think 'well they will beat Fulham at home' and they don't," added the former England boss.
"Maybe that's the fact they have just been thrown together a little bit too quickly and maybe it's a good thing that you can't just do that.
"It's a two-horse race now and obviously after getting beaten yesterday Arsenal have got a tough trip to Barcelona, which I can't see them coming through, so the league and FA Cup is all they've got left."

Mark Hughes, in his post match press conference following Fulham's 1-1 draw at Eastlands on Sunday was clearly unhappy with the way Blues boss Roberto Mancini shook his hand.

And finally ...

SPECIAL CONGRATULATIONS FROM THE 'OBSESSED WITH US' RAGS BOLLOX
Well done City, happy to share 35 years with you
They are Manchester United’s beloved neighbours so it’s only fair that we pay homage to one of City’s blue ribbon days. 28 February 1976 was when Manchester City last won a trophy after the 2-1 defeat of Newcastle United in the League Cup Final at Wembley. The bottom line is that if you’re under 35 years of age it’s an event that you have not seen the like of since. If you’re in your early fourties, here’s something which may stir some of those distant memories. The big question now is whether it will take City ANOTHER 35 years before winning some sort of silverware?

Manchester City 2 vs Newcastle United 1

This match is remembered for Dennis Tueart’s winner, one of the classic League Cup final goals. Teenager Peter Barnes gave City an early lead but Alan Gowling levelled before half time. The best was still to come though as Tueart latched onto Tommy Booth’s header across goal and scored with a glorious overhead kick. Tueart later described the strike as the best of his career.
Does Tuearts overhead strike remind you of a similar one scored AGAINST City recently?

Not going to get involved in a Mancini/Hughes row. Too late in the season for that kind of shit.
